Malls fer Kerepe. ‘She steamship Europa, Captain Lott, will leave Boston to-morrow, for Halifax and Liverpool. Her mails will close inthis city at half-past three o’elock, this atternoen. The Weekly Herald will be published et 10 o'clock this morning. — SESE MONEY MARK Monpvay, Sept. 2-6 P. M. ‘The stock market continues very heavy. The trans- setions to-day were unusually limited. United States sixes were in a little better demand, at a slight improve- ment in prices. It has been literally blue Monday in Wail street. * The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer ef this port. to-day, amounted to $95,725 00; payments, $112,497 26—balance, $7,058,812 17. ‘The amount of specie exported from this pert, from ‘the Ist of January to the 3lst of August, both inclu- ive, was $5,041,070. The bulk of this exportation was silver. ‘The railroad contemplated from Niagara Falls, via Hamilton, to Sandwich, opposite Detroit, is put under ecntract, and will be commenced forthwith. From the Buspension Bridge at the Falls, to Sandwich is 210 miles, and with the exception of getting up and down a mountain at Hamilton, the grade of the road is almost ‘a dead level. Itis an extraordinary fact that between Hamilton and Sandwich there is one portion of the read running fifty miles in a straight line. It is ex- pected to make the run from Niegara Falls to Detroit in six hours. It is stated that a considerable amount of counter- felt $2 (relief) notes,on the Monongahela Bank, Browns- ‘ville, are in circulation throughout the interior and ‘western part ef the State of Pennsylvania. The coun- terfeit is represented to be well executed. The receipts of the Boston, Concord and Montreal Rafiroad Company, for the month of July, 1850, amount- ed to $13,245.18. Paid connecting roads, $4,061 49. ‘The net income for six months ending July 31. 1850, exceeds that of the same period in 1849 about $11,000; The value of merchandise exported from this port fer the month of August, distinguishing the ship- ments to each place, was as annexed :— Commence oy THE Pont or New Yore—Vatvue ov Exronts—Ave. I Valueof Valueof Walweof Value of Te Be sme sugar “S502” 604 180 oe ams | 5 172 ess £140 19,120 3678 6,613 386 cs 1,130 368 ss 105 = 90481 70 (1,940 952 ws = 2.950 19,300 es 1,380 B. of Europe. 5,861 7 Total. . ....4,937,993 162,037 60,947 —Totel value ot exports for this month, $5,618,946. ‘This is am unusual amount, even for the season, ‘and exceeds any month previous for along time. At ‘this rate the aggregate for the year would exceed that of any other port in the country. ‘The Treasurer of the United States Mint, Philadel- phia, bas furnished the following statement, showing the smount of gold and silver deposited, and gold ‘and silver coinage at the Mint, for the first sight months of the present year :-— *Briven Stares Mixt, Pusvave Comace. The erection of additional machinery, now in progress, and whish will shortly be completed, it is eonfidently expected will afferd facilities to increase the coinage to four and a half or five millions a month. ‘This increased power will, no doubt, be completed in ‘time to meet the large and increased amount of gold Gust which is expected from California during the fall and winter. ‘To meet the increased demand for small gold coin, arising from the scarcity of silver, and other local enuses, the Mint has been recently engaged to» con- siderable extent on the smaller denominations, and « eontinued effort will be made to meet the present ex- traordinary demand. It is expected that the Becretary ef the Treasury will render efficient aid in this matter, by inerearirg the bullion fand of the Mint, thus ena- Difng the Treasurer to pay over, as s00n as ascertained, the value of a deposite, and whieh would render a por- tion of the precious metals which are now unemployed ‘by the government, useful to the business and com_ mercial interests of the country The operations in the office of the Assistant Treasuer ‘of the port of Philadelphia, for the month of August were as anne xed -— Asuetant Treascen's Orgeem Paiavetrma, Avot 1,732,131 63 sar3,r08 90 18,908 10 11,783 18 = 398,559 08 Balopee August 31... ese eeeeeee $1,333,572 55 ‘The amount on deposit te the credit of the govern- ment, at this port and in Philedelphia, on the Sist of Avgust, was, $6,400,166 08. The receipts from customs at the two ports, during the month, amounted to $4,007. 926 17. The returns for August, of the United Btates Treasurer, will probably show a larger amount to ‘the credit of the government than has been known at any time since the adoption of the Independent ‘Treasury system. The extraction of such ® large sum of rpecte from the channels of commerce, has bad no unfavorable effect upon the money markets of the country, and the banks have not experienced any inconvenience from the demand upon them for specie for the payment of duties. The Appro- priation bill will soon distribute these large de- porits, and doubtless add to the abundance of money. By returns recently made to Parliament, showing the income and expenditure of the British govern- ment, for the year ending July Sth, 1850, it appears. compared with the previous year, that there has been an increase in the revenue and im the expenditure to an extent sufficient to give a surplus of £3,498,358 at ‘the close of the Inst fiscal year — Fisances or Gneat 7,762,507 6,381,724 2,000,746 5.404 4,220,219 2104 Total. .ceeveee coe ce es CORSTE 48 £49, 991.313 1849. 1860. «on lll 832 £20,615.695 sees 267 §=«14.335,820 6.624 527 O64 4390409 «= 4. 361,591 2.861.382 2,672,133 oeeee 6.517.353 “ . Father Ritchie’s case was taken up, and on it Mr. Stanley delivered himself of a characteristic speeeh on the merits of the case, aad in reply to the speech which Mr. Fitch, of Indiana, made a day or two ago. Mr. Stanley said several pretty sharp thin gs. The whole subject was finally laid on the table. The House did not then take up the order of the day—the Texas boundary bill—but commenced deciding motions to adjourn. One motion was de- cided, by count, ip the negative. Next one was decided by tellewt, in the same way. Then a mo- tion was taken by yeas and nays, and decided in the affirmative. At half past two the House ad- journed. The members generally were indisposed to prolong the sitting. They should recollect—and no doubt the disunion portion of them do, and chuckle at the thought—that eve of the settlement of (se iii par the 2 Se the Union’s coffin ! Owing to a misunderstanding of some two years duration, an unpleasant aflair has recently taken place in this city, between Commander Johnson and Lieutenant Stanley, of the United States Navy, in which a challenge has been given and some placarding done. Captain Deperu, who fought so gallantly in Mexico, is in the city, and is a friend to one of the belligerent parties. The denowement will be known before long.
