On the North Branch and Susquehannsh divi- sions several breaches have also occurred, What is called the Susquchanne division commences at the junction of the Juniatta, or main line, at Dun- oan’s Island, sixteen miles above Harrisburg, and goes to Northumberland. 40% miles’ The commu- nication on this branch of the public works will be suspended for a few days, several heavy breaches baving occurred near Northumberland. The North Branch Canal commences at Northumberland, and runs to the Lackawanus dam, # distance of seventy- three miles. The reports from this quarter are quite ‘vogue, owing to the communication baving been cut off for the last few dayssince the tornado The information, as far as received, however. represents the damage as trifing. The West Branch division commences at Northumberland, and runs to Farrangsville, seventy- ! six miles. This isthe Valley of the Juniatte, where very little rain fell, and, of course, no damage or in- terruption bas taken place. The Delaware division runs trom Bristol to Baston, 69% miles. On this Mne the greatest damage has been done; the water is still very bigh, which precludes @ proper and reliable estimate; but the Canal Commissioners expect to have itin navigable order in ten or twelve days. The Ja- niatta commences at the head of Dupean’s Island, and ends at Hollidayeburgh, 127% miles, where pas- sepgores take the Portage Railroad to Johnstown, thence to Pittsburgh This is the main line, hich the business portion of the community will be grati- fled to leara is uninjured.
