Considerable progress has been already made upon all the heavy sections; several of medium class are very nearly, end some entirely, finished. The greatgtunnel is progressing steadily, and with every prospect of completion within the time limited by the engineer. The laying down of the iron will commence early next Spring. The road to the mouth of Savage may be ex- pected to be opened about June next, and the track will thence be pushed forward without interruption, and in an unbroken line until it reaches Wheeling. The iron is now arriving in large quantities at the eompeny’s wharf at Locust Point, upwards of 2,000 tone having been received in the last month. This fron is of excellent manufacture, and will compare favorably, as to cost, with any that has been imported. The recent sale of the company’s bonds, which were siven in payment for this iron, has been made in Lon- don by the Mesers. Baring, at 108 per cent, » gratify- ing evidence of the confidence whic! pitalists have in the work, and the gentlemen who have charge of it. ‘The last annual report of the Richmond, Fredericks- burg. and Potomac Company, giver the following fa- vorable account of the operations of the road during the year ending March 31st, 1850. The total income amount- 4 to $237,963, being an increase on the income of the Previous year of $39.009, and the current expenses of the year were $108,323, being an increase on the ex- penses of the previous year of $12,287; making an im- provement in the business of the year, compared with that of the year ending 3st March, 1849, of $26,721. Dedueting the current expenses of the year, $108,323 from the income of the year, $237.963, leaves » balance of $129,040 for the net earnings of the road. Out o this balance the Board were enabled, after paying the ‘usual dividend of seven per cent, and all charges fo- interest, amouuting together to $9,504, to expend the sum of $26,271 for improvements of their road and ad- ditions to their stock of machinery and materials for repairs. and to add the sum of $12854 to thotr avail able meens for the payment of the usual dividend, in the event of deficiency in the earnings of any particula? year.
