Warnrxorom, June 4, 1850, Mr. Seeretary Clayton's instructions to Mr Camp- bell, our Consul at Havano, are dated June Ist. ‘The President means to elsim that the Americana captured at or near the Mvxican island, have done nothing to suffer death, and that they can only be punished by our own governmont, and that the eagle must and shall protect them Mr Campbell will ask the Captain General of Cubs | to deliver them up, and warn him of the hasarde ‘of wer it one drop of American blood is shed wojustly. The squadron will aid the Consul. It is reported that large forces of invaders have landed on the south side of the island since the returm of General Lopez. My Campbell is to inquire inte the matter, and write promptly The American Prisoners at Caba, REFUSAL OF THE SPANISIC AUTHORY TO RELEASE TULM—INSTRUCTIONS TO THE AMERICAN NAYT. Washincron, June 4, 1850. The Union states that it understands despatches have been received by the government, from our Consul at Havana, stating he had demanded the 105 persone taken by a Spanish ship of war on the Island of Gon- toy. (Contoy isa neutral territory, and the men taken there had not bee ged in open hostilities, and were actually eonsiderivg the propriety of abandoning the enterprise, and returning to the United States) ‘The Governor has made no reply to our Consul, whe had transmitted despatches to Washington, stating the facts, and calling for additional power to second hie demand. Despatches were yesterday sent to such portions of our squadron as could be immediately collected at Havana, to assist in pressing the demand, Should the Spanish government refuse, the Consul isinstracted to. inform ¢ur government; and meantime, our vessels of, war are to obstruct the communication of all vessels with the port. It is reported that two vessels with, re-inforeemente for General Lopez, which wore commissioned to land at Cifferent points of the Irland, are still at sea, Their fate ond destination are unknown. It is said that fa the event of these versels being captured by the Span- ish, our own squadron is instructed to demand them of the Spanish commander, and if not given up, to selee them by toree. BY MAIL. Cur Washington Correspondence, Ww suinarom, Juaw 8, 1950, Cuba Invesion—The Oficial Correspondence Specks of War, In answer to aresolution of the Senate, the President to-day laid before them ail the official correspondenee of the Reund Island affair of 1549, and the Oardenss affair of 1850. We bave glanced over the correspondence relating to the latter, and submit the fellowing notes of it. The correrpondenge {s entirely too voluminous to eopy, and useless, os it isin the main buts recapitulation of facts already published: — Don Calderon to Mr. Clayton, Janwary 19. Com- plains of the proclamation of the Cuba junte estab- lished in Washington, and of other juntas in New York, New Orleans, and elsewhere, and thinks the eom~ spiracy ought to be nipped in ite birth, January 28. Mr. Clayton says he has addressed in- structions to the District Attorneys of New York, New Orleans and Washington, to keep a sharp look-out against a3] suspected persons, and to bring those guilty of violating the law of 1818 to punishment. May 7. Don Calderon bas information from Laberde, Spanish Consul, New Orleans, that the Ameriesm Schooner Hereine, with a cargo of only ten kegs of butter and ten barrels of whiskey, left that port for Chagres, having eleo on board arms, ammenition, and light ertillery, destined for the expedition against Cuba; that, after a hasty reareh, the schooner left, and the eoneul was sued for detention. Don Calderon ashe for redress. May 8. Laborde has informed Celderon that yolum- teers are organizing in New Orleans for a descent om Cubs; that for this purpore two vessels have left for © Chagres with four hundred men, that another ‘Veesel was about to sail; that Breedlove, late colkester, Das o vessel freighted to take out more men, and thet fifteen hundred men are enlirted in New Orleans. Oal- deron appeals strongly for redress. Mr. Clayton renews his instructions to the Distriet Attorney at New Orleanr. Mr. Hunter replies, The facts have been oxagge- ed. The force trom New Orleans does not execed o thourand. Lopes commands them. He hints thet Governor Quitman is to join them im Cubs.
