f absence of outsiders will not seriously incon. venience them, but the momont they are eompeliod Jock for a market—the moment they have to reelise—that moment prices must give way, aud 4 rapid depreejation take place There is not a single fancy stock in the list, depending upon its real merits—not one in which there {x any eouneetion between actual and market value—not one but that is inflated by the most artificial means, the current price of whieh is not likely to be depreciated ly th: mort trivial unfavorable eveat. Even government seourities are held to such an extent on speculition, that 2 few turns of the serews upou the money market, or any important adverse polities! movement in this country, or in Europe, would send them tumbling down several per cent, The stock market is, in our opinion, subject to great and su tien thy tations, and destined, before the japse of many days, to experience a eollapse, ruinous to holders of nnguarantied uuproductive securities The whole of Burope is in s very unsetiled, ds Ouz condition, and we must be prepared for an aphen- ving of the diecordant clements at work below the surface of society, partieularly on the continent, whieh, when once more ia operation, will perfeet the PUrpores so imperfectly accomplished by the recent Political revision, Revolutions never go backward be as true now as ik was fifty years ago, and we shall soon Fee its full force illustrated, The covernments of the old world have merely been patehed ap, and they all stand upon a very slim foundation, The atrempt made in 1848, to overthrow and destroy the old monar. ebies, wax partially unsuceessfal; but the people have | Jearned their power, and will never be content until it ia used to its utmost. Like the lon who has tasted Diood, they will never be rativtied until they have sati- ated their appetite. The result of the first effort, has taught them discretion. and the next grand demon- etration made, will, without donbt, sweep away every vestige of loyalty, und sow the seeds of repablicanism | broadeast throughaut the entire continent. The | people are only slumbering. the democracy ef the old world is merely dormant, the real | vepublicans of Franee are biding their time, and when they awaken. it will be in their full strength = and dogged determination to compicte the great work | a Degun in 1848 .and to establish the form of government | their hearts and souls have been so long yearning for. It is now merely a question of time. Republicanism | reigns supreme in the minds of the masses, in the old world as well as the new, and it must have vent. The policy pursued by the governments of the most revo- Yuticnary countries on the continent, is, of all others, best enleuluted to feed and fun the flame that is des- tined to consume them; and it certainly appears as though they were trying to see how much the peopte eould be oppressed-how much tyranny and taxation they would or could bear, before they would rise in their might, and shake off their oppressors. It seems to be the fate of the people of France to bo eursed with a bad government. The election of Louis Bapoleon was a fatal mistake. We have made such mistakes in thie country, and may do so again; but we have so much faith in that great regu- Jator—the ballot box—that we patiently bear the evils of imbceile eabincts, and learn from expe- rience to put no faith in no-party promises. The people of France have not yet learned that, after all, the great reyolutionizer, is the sitent but all-powerfal arbitrator, the batiot box; and tt will be years before they will appreciate the privilége of wniverral franchise. It is the impression of many in- | teiligent politicians in France, that there will be no at- tempt made to overthrow the present government of that country, that the most radical republicans will wait the general election, and then put in power those who advocate their principles, and are deeply imbued with any or all of the popular isms of the day, The sucecks of the socialists, in the elections which have reeently taken place. and the ease with which they have carried their point in the principal departments, would certainly warrant «uch a conclusion; but the people of France have no ordinary evils to eontend against, the masses have no ordinary burdens to bear, and, lovg before the general election arrives. thetr backs y be broken and crushed to the ground. The truth of the remark, “whom the gods with to destroy, they first make mad,” is forcibly litustrated in the policy pursued by Louis Napoioon aud his advirers and adherents. They are hastening their own destrustion, by the restrictions placed apon the press, by the imprisonment and banishment of political opponents, by the enormous expenditures o the trearury, by the rapid inerease in taxation and o the public indebtedness. We doubt if the people of France will peaceably put up with thea things for two yours; it ie mot characteristic, and therefare mot to be expected. ‘The eondect of the regiment referred to in our Inst seeounts frem France, shows that the army is a very slender reed for the government to lean upon for aup- port; and ® greater revolution has probably taken piace in the minds of the soldiery, in relation to the government of Louis Napoleon, than in any other elass fo the eountry, and very little dependence can be piseed upon them, to put down any popular political movement onthe part of the people. We should not be surpriced to reeeive by any steamer, advices of a movement made in Paris to revolutionize the govera- ment. Such an event is not far distant, and the ele- ments are at work that must surely bring it about. Pranee will be, as she has ever been, the leader in the next political revolution in Europe. andit it will «pread from Parise to all parts of the Continent with « rapidity ond Intensity, never before realized in the progress of euch @ movement. The next time ft will be thorough complete. Tt will not leave ove stone of a single menarchical government in Europe wpon another, and as for Kings, euporors, or anything else of a royal order, they are doomed to an- nihilation, In France, Prussia, Austria, Hungary, Po- Jend, and #0 on through the whole contineat, repubil- caniem will stride with terrifie power. For a time apereby will reign triamphaut over the ruins of thrones and monarchs, and many years mast elapse before a firm and proper government will arise from the wreeks around. The people of Europe are not yet prepared for self government. They must be properly educated before they can consolidate the principles of republicaniem in one perfeet whole; but they are on this account not less disposed or determined to com- menee the great work of reformation. Although we stand aloof and take no active part in the political revolutions of the old world, we aro, by no means, disinterested rpectators, of indifforent as to the reeult. So faras we can ald them by encouragement and sympathy, we have ever been foremost, aod we do not object to share our portion of the secrifies Ina fuancial and commercial point of view, re sufferers by any derangement of the political systems of the old world. Any change is, for the time, injurious to our mort importantintereste; but, as the great pioneer in repablicaniem, we must bear patiently any temporary oril caused by others following the example we have set For a time, the warkets of Furope would be destroyed for our staple exporting products, and all the ramifien- tions of trade deranged; but altimately our pro«perity would be immeasurably augmented, oar commercial position advanced, our population inereased by emi- gration, our resources more rapidly developet hy the addition of foreign capital; and as the people of the eld world, woder @ more liberal form of gow 4 more ¢eonoiaical administration of public affairs, an ‘extinguishment of the enormous public debts moderate taxation, anda more equal distribution of property progressed more rapidly in national prosperity. indi- should find greater markets for our principal products and manu- an increased trade between Europe end America, To realize thie desirable state of things, we must pass through « trying and dangerous ordeal— éommercially in America, politically in Europe; and thoe who ro manage their business as to be prepared for coming events, will be able to ride the storm, less epprehenrive ot danget and distress ‘Ki Paty TO ANY PERSON wg ANTED—A SEAMSTRBSS, Wants, Who [8 EITHER French or German, who is quick with her needle ‘and As desirous of gettiog perman to the dewk of Laas ol W4step Py A RE a ritvatic , and abs yee fur ti o as Chambermaid, » und work fore fa roridenee of the BCT ABLE yours a of childrea, general easeantes oo een ak SS Gi oer of Thircy-Afth wurwet, a Apply Washer and the conatry.
