A company of New York male and female artists gave an exhibition on Saturday night at Washington Hall, consisting of tableau vivants, comprising twenty views, including “Venus rising from the sca,” &o.; previous to which, the female Sorenaders appeared; which was attended by about 1,500 persons, among whom wore most of the old bald-headed and gold-headed-cane geon- exhibition passed nd smutty jokes were higily relished by the audience, and nineteen of the twenty tableaux had been given, when & posse of about twenty police officers mounted the stage and seized tho five female models in their silk tights, and were about dragging them off to the watch-house with- out giving them time to dress, when the audience in- terfered and compelled them’ to wait until they wore dressed, and also ingisted that they should procure carriages for them. The girls fought like good fellows, and had the men of the company stood as firm, the re- sult might have been different. They were taken before Justice Boardiey, and gave their names as Julis Ann Butler, Elizabeth Wharton, Frances Holloway, Martha Miller, and Jane Jordan, who held them to bail to anewer this morning, on ‘the charge of violating an ordinance relative to obscene plays, and also for por- forming without a license. Jacob Oratt, on the charge of being concerned, and of aiding and abetting in this exhibition, wes also held to bail, Some of our most rexpectable citixena are summoned to appear this morning as witnesses. The rowdies belonging to the New Market fire com- pany yesterday broke loose from the restraint pro- duced by the gentlemanly deportment of the New York firemen, and made an indiscriminate attack on @ half dozen companies on Baltimore street, causing ono of the most disgraceful Sunday fights that has takea place in our city for some time, The bonutiful appa- ratus of the Friendship was also damaged by the rowdies, and the members driven away from the ropos by showers of bricks. There were several small fires during the day; the only one of any account was the burning of the roof and the upper story of the maa- tion of Frederick Konig, Eeq., on Pine street. There were riots at several points of the city during the day, one of which was between the Lafayette aad Frevklip. ‘A young man, named John Maree, committed suicide yesterday morning, at the house of Dr. Laroque, at about eight o'clock. He wentto church at an early hour, and returned about seven o'clock, retiring to his room. Aboutan hour afterwards, was found sue pended by the neck to the bannisters of the stairway, perfectly dead. He bad been very unfortunate in bi ness, which produced something of a settled me choly, On Saturday inst, in the city took place between William P. I ger P.
