@UR SPECIAL TELBGRAPHIC CORRESPONDENCE. Waenmeron, April 6, 1850. _ Bis understood that Mr. Benton’s plan ts ikewise ‘the plan of the eabinet—that is, to admit Californie separate and distinct from any other subjeet. Mr. Webster is positively reported to have ehanged ground since the appeal of Mr. Clay yesterday, in whieh he (Mr. C.) obscrved that he was willing to vote forthe admission st any time, either as a separate measure, or in conjunction with others. Government stocks were in better demand, to-day, in anticipation, probably, of large orders by the Europa; but asthe mail had not been delivered at the close of the board, the extent of foreign orders had not transpired. The non-receipt of private letters, generally. during business hours, had « tendeney to check operations; and the markets will not feel the full effeet of the foreign news until Mon- day. In the meantime, merehants will have « good opportunity to digest private aceounts, and lay out thelr course aecordingly It is the impression, in Wall street, that the ac- eounts of gold dust reeeived from California by the last arrival, are very much exaggerated. This is no doubt true. The whole amount receive@et this port, by steamers from Chagres, is sonsidered California goid Gust, whereas a portion, and sometimes a large portion, of it ts epecie, from all parts of the Pacifie sonst. ‘Then, the amount reported to be in the trunks of pas. vengers is all guess work, and inveriabiy put down four or five times larger than it really {s. All these reports should be taken with great allowance for the working of the imagination, as the effeet of sueh extravagant and exaggerated statements upon the public is likely to be very injariows. California, in time, will gire as all the gold we want, and there is no use in reporting the produetion so much mote than it really is The reeeipts of eoal, last week, by the Sebuytkill | Canal, amounted to 13,686 tons; and by the Reading Railroad, 21.467 tons. Holders of Texas liabilities are disposed to look apom this aetion of the officers of the State of Texas, as an index that the State is Indieposed to consider the re- Gittered liabilities an ail that it has to pey.
