LAD where ny ir i erates ohana ae ena | Be ae COMMERCIAL APPAIBS, BONNEY MARKET. Tuesday, March 12-6 P.M. ‘There was a slight reaction in the stock market to- dey, s0 far as prices are concerned, while the operas tions were to a greater extent than usual. All kinds of stocks were sotive to-day. At the first board, U. ©'s, 1867, advanced 3; per cent; Pennsylvania 5's, 3; Erle Bonds, new, 1; Reading Bonds, }¢; Farmers’ Loan, 2%; Norwich and Worcester, 14; Indians 6's fell off 5 per cent; Morris Canal, 1%; Erie Railroad, }¢; Read- ing Rallrosd, {; Canton Co. X. The improvement in Farmers’ Loan is one of those galvanic touches that fancy stecks are so frequently subject to, and as there are speculators ready to catch at any fresh beit, they serve to relieve some of the shrewdest holders of their stock. To show how greata fire « little spark Kindieth, it is only necessary to point to the fact that the advance im Farmers’ Loan today was produced partially by a reference of the difficulties at issue be- tween the company and the purchasers of property at the recent sale, toa board of arbitrators. In anticipa- tion of a decision in favor of the company, the stock ad- vanced about two per cent, whereas the probability is that upon an announcement of a tavorable decision having actually beem made, the stock would fall. Spe- eulators in the fancies usually anticipate any move- ment calculated to benefit any particular stock, and when the reality comes, prices generally take the back track. At the second board there were large sales of all the fancies, and prices, compared with those current in the morning, show a slight improvement. Erie Bonds, mew, advanced 3 per cent; Farmers’ Loan, %; Read- bg Railroad, 3; Harlem, \;; Long Island, %. The Dears have, for several days past, been large lers on ‘time, and when the tide turms, they will have a wide margin for @ depression in prices. The fluctuations, from day to day, show in what a feverish state the market is, and most any of the fancies may cave inany day. The ups and dowas in Morris Canal sre suffi- elent to give the bears a good profit almost every day; ‘and, as they sell upon every advance, when the col- lapse takes place, the possibility is that the bulls will suffer come. The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of this port, to-day, amounted to $97,345 13; paywents: $68,412 85; balance, $3,789,517 39. ‘The proposition to connect the Seaboard and Ro:- noke Railroad with the city of Norfolk, by bridges across the southern and eastern branches of the Elize- beth River, has been defeated in the Virginia House of Delegates. We publish, in another part of this day’s paper, s table showing the quantity of each article exported from this port for California, for the year 1849, amd for the first two months of 1860. This will be valuable to those engaged in the trade, Shipments made within the past four or five months, are still afoat, and mer- chante in California can judge pretty nearly what the Tecelpts from this port will be. So faraswe can form an estimate, it is our impression that the aggregate receipts of gold from California will just about pay for the goods imported into San Francisco from the port ot New York. Boston is very largely engaged in this ¢fade; in fact, every seaport on the Atlantic has fitted out more or less vessels with cargoes for California. A table bas been published in Liverpool, showing the amount of dividends realized, to the end of last year, from the estates of many of the leading houses which fell during the commereial crisis of 1847-48.
