MONEY MA’ MARKET. Tuesday, January 29-6 P, ‘There was no material chat im the steck market to-day. The operations were not so large as usual, but prices correspond with those current at the close yester- day. Since the closing of the stock books of the Har” Jem Railroad Company, for the payment of the divi dend, prices have fallen off, and the sales have been large. All the fancies are exceedingly dull, and it is most extraordinary how pricas are so well sustained. Several strong houses in the street have undertaken to carry some ef .the leading fancies; but they have already found out that it will be a more difficult opera- tion than antcipated. Holders of Harlem have, within the past day or two, become alarmed, and are evidently under great apprehensions that a deoline of several per | cent will be the result of the recent declaration of a dividend. It is inevitable; and it is most astonishing that the board of direction were so shortsighted as not to see the effect of such a movement. The reports we have recently published of railroad companies, showing the financial and traflc operations of the past year—1849--have fully confirmed every thing we have said relative to railroad mismanagement, The annual report of the Boston and Worcester, West. ern and Fitchburg companies, exhibit an increase in the cost of each road, during the past year, equal to tbat of any previous year, and there appears to be no limit to their expenditures. When the capital is ex- hausted, (as in the Worcester and Fitchburg oom- panies,) the management create a debt to any extent required. This is the rock upon which all railroad corporations will split. Competition for traffic will soon show iteelf in reduced income, while rivalry in afford- ing facilities and conveniences to the travelling public, ‘Will swell the eost of these works to an enormous amount; and between the two there must be a burst up anda break-down. We are looking anxiously for the official reports of the railroad companies of this State, made under oath to the Legislature, as it is our im- pression that there will be some strange developements regarding construction acccunt and running expense account. The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of this port, to day, amounted to $69,834 42, payments $15,956 27—Dalance, $2,758,707 63. The Leather Manufacturers’ Bank has declared a se- mi-annual dividend of four per cent. ‘The Merchants’ Bank of Newark has declared a semi. annual dividend of three per cent. The Worcester and Providence Railroad cost $1,939,- 666 44. Its earnings last year, $217,253 76. Expenses, $116,022 05, The number of vessels which arrived at Amsterdam fm 1849, by sea, amounted to 1924—106 arrived from Riga, 106 from Drammen, 74 from Memel, 67 frem St Petersburgh, 85 from Newoastle, 73 from Dantzic, 95 from London, 103 from Hamburgh, 121 from Java, 33 from Konigeberg, 27 from Archangel, 26 from Leer, 49 | from Seaham, from Surinam, 92 from Sunderlan | 22 from New York, 21 fram Emden, 28 from Frederik- stadt, 25 from Bordeaux, 21 from Cardiff, 23 from Har- tlepool, 69 from Hull, 34 from Nerva, 18 from Bergen, 10 from Liban, 7 from Lisbon, 10 from Norden, 15 trom Stettin, 13 from Osterrisoer, 10 from Stockholm, 19 from Havana, 18 from Arendabl, and 9 from Pernam- | buco, Domestic products were exported from Boston, for | the week ending Jan. 26, to the amount of $101,800 95; foreign, $34,828 96, Same time lest year, domestic products, “a foreign, $17,770.
