COMMERCIAL AFFAIRS. MONEY MARKET, Saturday, Dee 15—6 PM. ‘The stock market opeped heavy this morning, so far ‘as prices were concerned, but the transactions in the Jeading faucies were large. principally for cash, At the first beard, Reading bonds, Farmers’ Loan and Paclem fell off 36 per cent each, Morris Canal %, Can- tom Co. and Long Island 3/ each, Norwich and Wor- werier 4, and Reading RR. %. At the second beard, Reading bonds declined 7% per cent, and Reading RR. H%. The market closed with s downward tendency, ‘The decline in Reading RR. which we bi cipa- ‘ted, has commenced. and the bulls will probably have to submit to much lower prices. Quotations for all ‘the fancies were heavy et both boards, and the indica- tions are in favor of a vetarn to old pric The recent flurry in these subterranean cecurities has { aed the supply in the market, and the bulls are jess able to carry them than previous to the temporary inflation. ‘The Fitchburg Raiiroad has declared a dividend of _ 4 per cent, psyable on the Ist of January, to holders of “stock on the 15th inst, Also, Interest on the new stock |. at the same time. Afcer paying this dividend, the Feit wi has a surplus for the year of $50,000—mak_ ig the whole amount of surplus on hand to be $90,009. — Canal Commissioners of Pennsylvavia have at tant ordeis to draw off the water from the canals of that State, on Thuredey neat the 20th instant, if mot sooner elc sed by ice. The Portsmouth and Roanoke railroad was attached Dy its creditore, sold at auction, aud purchased by a Mr. Rives. He at once proceeded to take up the rails. On complaint, he was prosecuted for injury done to the highway, and was fined. The Court decided that a railroad was granted by the legislature as a public con- venience, a highway, and that neither the company nor individuals had a right to take up the rails, or take any measures that would prevent its use as @ public road. The Oswego Times, in speaking of the commerce of that port, rays:— “ The shipments of Canadian produce through this port under the warehousing law, has largely increased during the «aon now closed. Among the articles thus shipped through in bond for export to 0 foreign ports, the present reason, there have been 200.000 bbis, of flour, including some 2.000 or 3,000 barrels to go forward by railroad, Over and above this amount, some hundred barrels of Cansdian flour have this pert, and paid duties here—probably not barrels, there have alo been imported into thi port 6 bushels of Cavadian wheat. of which areola bushels have passed through im bond for the se: and 243.997 bushels bave been sold, and have hapa duties ber “The Canadian wheat crop of this year was uncom- monly abundant, and of excellent quaiity, nearly or quite equal to the best samples of Geueses. By the Uapeaten and mixing of the last named quantity of apadian wheat, our millers have been evabied to ma- aie into eupertine flour over @ militoa of bushels etlow a ity of upper lake bag it, which would net i> a flour required by New ¥ inspection for sup: ‘The process of mixing uas vee 4 to make a good market, and to enhance the value of both kinds at this point” To show hew rapidly the commercial and agricul” tural interests of Canada are becoming identified with this country, it is only necesrary to state, that last year about 60.000 barrels of Canadian flour and meal reached New York, while this year more than 200,000 barrels bave been put in bond et the Atlantis Dock ~~etores, at Brooklyn. There are, at this moment, over 75,000 barrels Canada four, avd 90,000 bushels Canada ‘wheat, in store, waiting shipment to England and elsewhere, every barrel of which, of course, passed through the Oswego and Erie cana's. But what will most surprise those who have not kept pace with the Canadian trade, !s the fact that there are vessels at this moment at the Atlantic Docks, taking in Canadian flour and meal for New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland.
