Reading Railroed changes hands daily in Jerge lots, without any waterial variation In prices ‘The great difference between prices for cash and those on time, seller's option, still continues, and the trans- actions are principally on time. Parties operating for a rise do not like to purchase on time, selier’s option, as it does not relieve the market of any portion of the supply of stock pressing upon it; and in consequence of the probability existing that long time contracts made now will fall due too far ahead to be influenced by the cornering movement of the present day, pur- ebasers prefer to operate for cash. Buyer's option is preferred, as it gives the purchasers the privilege of calling for the stock at their pleasure, and the bulls ean at any time, if strong enough, get the bears for a time in a tight place, All these operations go to show how foolish it is for outsiders to touch fancy stocks. The moment they become involved in any of these movements, they are in the hands of parties who may at avy time ruin them. Outsiders have no eoutrol over street speculators ; they very seldom know anything shout, or in any way understand, the movi ments going on, or the object the wire pullers have in view, and they are, therefore, at the mercy of those who nage the ropes. Morris Canal bas been quite active during the past two cr three dayr, and prices have ad- vanced abcut % percent in that time. The basis of this movement iss mystery, and it is our impression that it will vot very soon be solved. The reccipte at the office of the Assistant Treasure of thir port, to-day, amounted to $30,026 (6; payments, $07,082 44; balance, $5,776 908 94. The value of merchandise ered at this port for for the week ending the 18th inst. In- 49,441, of which $1,182,903 was in du- tlable merchandise, $68 004 free goods, $104.520 with- drawn from ehouse, $844,014 specie and bullion. The amount of duties collected, $325,541 ‘The Rutland and Burlington Railroad will probably be open the entire distance from Burlington to Boston next week. A celebration of the event of the oom- pletion of the road is contemplated to take place early in January. The Pertemouth aed Concord Railroad was opened to the poblic on Tueeday last, to Epping, a distat nearly 17 miles. A little more than one-third of the whole road is now running order, anda fourth of the remainder of the grading is done.
