The stock market continues very unsettled ; quo- tations fluetuate. from day to day, a fraction; but the tevdancy is downward, and the bears have decidedly the advantage. At the first board. to-day, Erie 7's, 1859, fell off 4 per eent ; Reading Railroad % ; Long Inland % ; Canton Co. advanced 3 per cent. and Long | Island %. There were large sales of Canton Co., all on time, buyers’ and sellers’ option, but one small lot. ‘The stock was freely offered, and the bulls got all they wanted. Another decision, supposed to be favorable to the North American Trustand Banking Company, is ex- pected in a few days, and the stock» was held, to-day, at an advance of 3 percent. If an advance of ¢ per cent was asked in anticipation of the deesision, what may we not expect when it is made public? We have no idea of what the decision is, but it is our opinion that it will prove to be just like all previous ones—just noth; tall. It may be something like the recent @ecision of the Farmers’ Loan «nd Trust Company. All who do not realize any advance produced by this Tt ie stated in the strect that the Harlem Ratlread Company eontemplate declaring # dividend on the Ist of February next. It the concern has credit enongh to Dorrow money enough for that purpose, a dividend may ‘de paid. and the ameunt of the dividend will, no doubt, Gepend entirely upon the amount of money the eom- pany ean borrow. So far as the earnings are concerned, they will all be used up in paying running expenses, Tepsira, interest on debt, and dividends on preferred stoek. The public understand the object of these forced dividends too well to be gulled by them. This isa desperate movement on the part of the bulls in that stock. and it will, doubtless. be a seoond edition of the lebrated two and a half per it dividend of the Nor- wieb and Worcester Railroad Company. If this ruse advances the price of the stock. all we ean say te out. side belders ss, to sell—sell—sell The weial and commervial advices received by the stesm+hip America do not amount to much. There had been no change in any of the markets, either as regarded prices or demand. ‘The reoeipte at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of this port, to-dey, amount to $117119; payments, $5,786 balance, $3 086,822 41; duties, $111,923. ‘The oggregate amount of tolls received on the New York State cavals, to the 22d of September, was $2,004,” 540 45 inst $2013 674 80, for the same period last ear, showing a decrease this, of $8,983 85. ‘The direoters of the Reading Railroad Company have passed w reeolution, giving the holders of the preferred Cc stock, and holders of the uncentroverted bonds of 1860, the privilege of exchanging them for new mort- gege bonds, payable in twenty years. The amount of Preferred stock and bonds of 1850, is about $4,000,000. | It bas also been determined to set aside $75 000 aunual- | Br. ly. a4 a sinking fund for the redemption of su onds of 1860 as may not be exchanged. Holders of the pre- ferred stock, who may make the exohange, will receive | ‘one-bult per cent, #0 as to place them one per with holders of the bonds of 1850—that being the difference Detwren the interest paid on the bonds and dividend on the stocks. The Rutland and Burlington Railroad has been opes. 4 fer business from Burlington southward to Salis- ry—a distance of forty miles. Large quantities of silks and mil- linery were sent to England for aslo during the panto eaured by the revolution; it will be observed by the ta- ble above that less of these articles has been exported this year; and the inference is, that they are now oon- sumed at home since order wasrestoredin the country, and that the outgoings will still be less as their own wants increase, Stock Exchange. 113g 600 she Harlem RR #0 40 80 8: 0 Reading RR . w 100) ‘yO 85 10g 50 oo Wi, i se su! 4 and Bese River BR g Canton Co joha\ wo 00 37 25 Canten cen bo 7% 66 SS 75 @d 3 s7 ‘OO bo 38) 060 38! 00 3 ‘blO 3, ss w g Canto Answers to Advertisements vent poids or they, will not be taken Srom A’, THE ITALIAN EXILES—A MEETING OF ITA- Jd on Saturd ming next, the 2th aeTo'slooks a6 Nosb Darclayerrses teaferd all poole Sietcid'sd the lualian Exiles.
