TELEGRAPHIC INTELLIGENCE, Imdian Depredations in Fiorida—Great Alarm among the Frontier Settiers—More Buteherics, do. Bartimons, Aug. 1, 1840. A despatch from the Sevannah Geersiun offee has Deen seceived, which states that the Indians in Floride have made further outbreake, the seene of their depre- dations being in the neighborhood of Charlotte’s Har- Dor, on the Gulf. This hostile movement of the red- skins was pimultancous with the one at Indian River. This ebows that the Indians had their operations wel) ecneerted. The express rider, with the intelligence from the east, met the one from the west at Tampa. Fifteen Indiana entered the store of Mr. Kennedy, at @harictte’s Harbor—Mr, Kennedy being absent at the time—and murdered the clerk and man that was with him at the time, besides wounding several men and women They plundered the store, and afterwards burnt it. Two military companies, sent from Tampa for the protection ef the frontier, Lave nearly all deserted, ‘The Indians, it is said, are contemplating another dos- erate war. Great alarm prevails among the frontier settlers, who are abandoning their crops and homes, recking safety and protection from the tomahawk of the savage. ‘The Indians at firet exbibited friendship, but their true jign was soon made manifest. It is ewppored that there are six hundred warriors in the Geld. The fact 4s, enpital in this country is worth more than five per cent, and those engeged in active businoss have full employment, in the regular seasons, for every dollar they can command. The inactive stete of trado for acme time past, and the easy state of the money mar- kel, bave given the commercial classes au abuadance of idle capital, which has sought employment in the soundest and safest securities. The result has been, large temporary investments in government stocks, even at the high prices which have ruled for eometime past. Thorate of interest realized was small, it fs tru but the money was earning something, instead of re- maining dead capitalon deposit in our banks, The time bas arrived when @ change must take place—when | | much of this capital will bo wanted in commercial | pursuits, and when @ portion of these investments | muet be withdrawa.
