Mr. Busi, of Buffalo, considered that the effect of the bill would be to drive out of existence $2,000,000 of Safety Fund Bank capital, aod no prudent man, he @aid, would, in that case. invest in the business, Mr Coox urged the justice of the bill to stoexhold- ers: if it is not paseok, after January 1st, 1854, every stockholder of a failing bank 15 liable to be pursued for @ll debts, by any crediior, and instead of making the Mability equal, the burthen would be made to fall on euch as might be selected, because of their greater ability to pay. Mr. Hunt, Chairman on Commerce of the House, carried it through that body, and various other measures of advantage to the mercantile ia- terest, and now thut he has been called home, we we may take the liberty to say that his conduct as a member of the House, hag been that of a tuithtul representative and the true gentleman. There were two rival inavguration balla last night—one gotten up by the ultra whigs, aad one by the no-party friends of Gen. Taylor. The tor- mer was celebrated in a tremendous white pine ehanty, hitched on to the gable end of the old rick- ety City Hall, sundry rooms of which were appro- pria ed for ladies’ dressing rooms, including the Mayor's office, and others for the supper and liquoring rooms. But we leave a particular de- scription of the affuir to our associates. It was understoed to be the orthodox thing, and that old Zack would take his supper there; and that fact getting out, the tickets weat off in the evening with astonishing success. But the pressure cf the multitude coaverted the affair mnte a sort of experimental purgatory, Ladies fainted from suffocation, in attempting to get inte or out of the supper room, from which the grutle- men were excluded altogether.
