MONEY MARKET, Wednesday, Feb. 28—6 P. M. The upward mevement in some of the fanol continues, while the quotations ef others have fallen At the first board to-day, Reading bonds advanced 2 per cent; Reading Railroad, 1%; Farmers’ Loan, 7; ; New Haven, 3; ; Mj Treasury Notes declined 3; States 6's, 1868, 3;; Harlem, 36; Long Island, X. All others closed at prices current yesterday. There were large sales of the leading fancies; but prinofpally on ‘time, at buyers’ and sellers’ option, At the second board there was no material variations in prices, and the sales were to @ moderate extent. ‘The market closed firm at our quotations, It will be perceived, by an advertisement in another eolumn, that the Hudson River Railread seven Per cemt bonds bave been taken by some of This shows what conf- dence they have in the security of the investment. individuals who have subseribed to thes bonds are large holders of the stock, and are deeply interested in the completion ai portant enterprise, off @ fraction. Morris Canal, * ; our wealthiest citizens, success of this The company have now fands @nough to finish the road to Poughkeepsie, and pro- vide sufficient machinery for the most active opera- tions; and we believe it is the intention of the mana- gers to open it to that point before receiving proposals m required to construct the re- for the reat of the 1 mainder of the line. The committee appointed by the Legislature of New Jersey to examine the affairs of the Camden Insurance ‘eport, recommending that trus- ‘tees be appointed to take cbarge of the business of the @oncerm, until it shall be closed and its accounts li- quidated. Messrs, Browning, Dudley, and Toy, were Teocommended as trustees, to make @ report of their doings to the Chancellor A bill w: effect, and immediately passed to a second readi: It appears, by the report of the committee, that th ‘company was chartered on the 1éth of March, 1832, ‘with a capital of $100 000, for the purpose of insuring ‘Duildings, merchandise, vessels of all kinds, &o,, against damage by fire and otherwise. The charter Fequired that $25,000, or twenty-five per cent of the capital should be paid in before commencing business. This hes not been complied with, and the affairs of the eompany appear to have been managed solely with a ‘view of benefiting those directly connected with the It does not arpear by the books, thet @nything was done under the charter until 1847—fif- teem years after the date of the charter—when it was organized with a cash capital of one, thousand dellars, under the following board of directors :— Robert W. Ogden. J. W. Gooper, R. Felters, N. Davis, J. H. Cowpertwaite, E. Toole, J. W: Mackie, H. L, Bulkley, I. Toy, of Camden; O. S. Halsted, jun. Newark; A. Clark, Somerville. dent; H. L. Bulkley, Secretary; R. J, Crommelin, Agent, 72 Wall street. The capital appears to be represented by a certificate of deposite of $20,000 in the Bank of New Rocholle, which tke managers allege was given in exchange for notes transferred without recourse; a draft on the agent in New York for $5,000; $1,000 in cas! of E. D. James for $80,100, past due and without any nd another of $30 000, curity—making $80,000 With this icadequate oapi- ‘tal they have done a very large amount of business, ®nd their premiums bave reached the large sum of $186,000, and their losses upward of $100,000, in less than two years. Theccmmittee do not think it expedient to repeal the charter ef the company at present, as there is such @ large number o. risks outstand! prejudicial to.the creditors. One half of our insurance ompenies are in no better condition than this con- oern exhibits; and if the same measures were adopted by the Legislature of this State, to investigate their offairs, the same rottenne: ‘weuld be discovered. We see by the Missouri papers, that the bill to incor- Forate the Missouri aud Mismes(ppi Ratlroad Company, ‘to builds road from Lexingtoa, on the Missouri river to Ohio City, at the mouth of the Ohio river, has passed Alto, @ bill pending to appropriate ten thousand dollars for the survey of sald road.— “There is aleoa bill before Congre: Ftruction of the road.
