RE TE TET ET City Intelligence. Tne Aspect oy ve City Yestexvay—Suetc Brow-saris.—Never has this great city presented ® more lively appearance on the Sabbath than yester- dey. The sky was perfectly clear, and the air mild talubrious. The walking was bad. But whocared fer that ? Every one could raise @ 4 all leigh ride. The streets were n: hadi condition for that pleasant amusement; and by the early worn the sleigh bells could be heard in every part of the city; the first which appeared being that Indvstrious class who daily deal out thelr diluted milk to tonineo’elock in the morning, thrre was quiet; but after that time, until part the hour of midnight, the propelling power of the lash was freely used upon the exhausted and worn out their thousand patrons. From sev: horeer, I: was amaring to fee the crowds which ficeked about the rail road and stage depots, to catch ackance to ride. About three weeks ago, there arrived at North Adams, in the night train of care, a Dr. Roberts, having in charge a beaut ful young temale, Sreerentty in feeble Health. She was richly attired, and her whole bearing bespoke a ished breeding. This Dr. Roberts rocured a beck, and went the same night to his oure in Williamstown, situated in a district call- ed the White Oaks. Thisdistrict, by the way, 1s the most desolate place imaginable. Situated on the lise between Vermont and Massachusetts, it has become the rendezvous of culprits of all sorts, and of al! colors, * black, white and gray ;” an the common sewer for off scourings of the coun- try. Last Sundwy wight, she died in great distress, refusing te give the Jeast clue to her history, to persons who forced their wey to her bedside. Oa Mon- day the Dr. sent a telegraphic despatch to Albany, in Wilhamstown, produced great excitement. The body was taken from Roberts’ keeping ; an inquest held, and a post mortem exam made.
