Great Excitement in Albany—The Explosion among the Politicians—Gen, Taylor's Charleston Letter, The reception of the news here, this afternoon, of the acceptance, by Gen. Taylor, of the nomination tendered him by the Charleston, S. C., democrats, as- sociated with Gen. Butler, as Vice President, was a political bomb in the Taylor whig camp. Commo- tion and excitement were visible in the whig ranks everywhere. A conclave was held at the Even- ing Journal office, it is said, between Filimore, Weed, and a number of other prominent Taylor whi and about 6 o’cleck a hand-bill was povted ) bout the street bg Mr. Dawson, one of the editors of the Journal, ai some other of i- nent men in the party, who it is wot sary to name, cullirg a meeting’ at the capitol, “for the pur- pose of considering the letter of General Taylor, ae- cepting the nomination f the Charleston democrats,”? at 8o’clock At the appointed hour the great hall of the capitol was filled with the most excited men I have ever wit- nesséd at # political meeting. Some declared they would “ nominate Harry of the West. and elect him;’? others said “ you can’t do it. he won’t accept— haven’t cot time;” and » third olass said, “you must unite in the free soi] movement and go for Van Buren and Adams.» Thu idet the’general excitement, a variety of opinions Were exprested in regard to what course they ought to pursue; but so far as General Taylor was concerned, every’ man, arid thore too who have always, up to this day, supported him with all their zeal, repudiated him in toto. The meeting was organized, by calling ox-Mayor Parmelee to the chair, associated with James Kidd, John Schoolcraft and John T. Hewson, ag vice presi- dent#,and James I’, Stevenson and Lewis Benedict, as secretaries. Mr. Parmelce stated briefly the object of the meeting, dread the proreedings of the Charleston meeting, and then the reply of Gen. Taylor. He said he su pored that Gen. Eon one had been nominated as a whig, and thus far hi supported him as such, but now we have before us his acceptance of s nomination im company with @ locofoeo, and our own Fillmore strici off. It was for the whigs of the city of Al- bany, and the State of NewYork, to say what they would do in such oe Mr. Haswee, ¢: en came forward, end spokein a vi cited manner. He said he had but just heard of this important news. He saw the 6 flocking up to the capitol ; he asked what was going on, and he was told—and he declared at once, he was ono of them. He would no longer support. Gei lor. What course it was best to take, he he thought we had better act at once, Harry of the West. He moved that nine be appointed to draft resolutions, and report to the meeting immediately. Mr. Bexeprct, Jr., moved to amend the motion, and have the committee report on Monday night. He had always supported General Taylor ; he went for him in the convention, but he would go for him no longer, unless he defined his position. Mr. Canrexten themcame forward, and stated that he. bad supposed that General Taylor was a whig. When General Taylor was nominated, he expected that hisacceptance would be. all right. He waited ‘a long time, and became uneasy, but Mr. Weed sald, im ‘ the Journal, thatit would be all right—that when it did come it would be all any whig could ask: Atlast it came, but he was disappointed, and now he had seen this letter of General Taylor he could, upon no consi- deration, be induced to sw him, Joun A, Conmmn was m called for, who came upon the stand, amidst the most deafening shouts, and said that he could speak to this audience in their pre- sent state ofexcitement. He felt perfectly cool, and could not feed the passion which in breast of the audience. Do not let us, said he, be has- ty; let us take time to reflect, and deliberate upon the coutse we will pursue.
