A decrease of more than one and a half millions of dollars in the value of merchan- dise imported in four days, this year, compared with the game peiiod in 184) in the value of exports, and 1 7, will make up for a large decrease @ wide margin for fatuge importations to increase the balance against us. We ave fearful that this favorable state of things cannot continue, that the importations for the fall trade * will bemueh larger than is generally anticipated; it is, however, some satisfaction that many of thegoods now coming out, particularly those from the continent, have been paid for. Advices from Havre state tha’ there dave recently been large orders for exportation filled, increased, no doubt, by the low range of prices which has terapted foreign purchasers, and by the fact of the preminm on the exports of goods having been doubled. It is slso stated that the quantity of ma- nufactured goods i: export has largely principally for the in the Custom Houso at Havre for increased, an+ the shipments are United States. We hve frequent- ly stated that a large portion of the specie s.1'eped from this port for France, was sent out for the pur- chase pf French goods; and recent accounts from Ha- vre have confirmed these statements. Speculators and importers in this market take advantage oftheimmense depreciation in prieek for every description of French goods in the home market, caused by the political revo- ution and the commerv..- ravulsion which preceded it, and purchased largely for “cash, With the gold and silver in hand, they almost made theit own terms; and such was the anxiety of the manufacturers to realize, that they submitted to the most enormous sacrifices. Many of the goods purchased in that manner are now coming out, and we shall soon realize some returns for the large sums of specie sent abroad some months ince, .
