Messrs. Corcoran & Riggs, for themselves, the Barings, &c., offered a premium of 3.02 for the whole loan, No bid under 3.02 has been accepted by the Secretary of the Treasury. The above list is quite formidable, and speaks in the strongest terms of confidence in the credit and stability of the United States. The Union of Sunday says :— The sealed bids for the loan of sixteen millions of dol- lars were opened yesterday, at 3 o'clock, by Mr. Young, the able and worthy chief clerk of the Treasury, in the presence of the Secretary, of the heads of bureaus, of the principal bidders, and’ spectators, in the large en- trance hall of the Treasury Department. The time ta- ken up in in opening and arranging the bids, was more than two hours. The total amount bid was $30,833,140, nearly every dollar at a premium, The whole loan was bid for in the name of “ Corcoran and Riggs, for them: selves, Baring Brothers and Co , of London. and others at a premium of 3 2-100, the premium offered by them above par amounting to $283,400. They were the high- est bidders for about $14 000,000 ; the remafning $2. 000,000 bringing a premium ranging from 3 3-100 to 4 5-100. The total premium realized is about half a mil- lion of dollars. When we compare this result with the loss of rorty-six millions of dollars by discounts on the government loans during the war of 1812, as shown by the Committee of Ways and Means in their report to Congress of 1830, and the sale of one and three-quarter millions of dollars of our United States six per cent. cent. as late as 1842, in time of profound . premium of half a million of dollars realized on the present loan must be a subject of universal congratu- lation throughout the country. We perceive, besides their numerous other correspondents and customers, that Baring Brothers and Co., of London, and others, are associated with Messrs, Corcoran and Riggs, in their bid. So fur as the loan is thus taken on foreign account, it would, of course tend to change the current of specie, and to cause a reflux of gold and silver tothe country Stock Excha $49600 Treas Notes6s 104100 do 10000 do WH) 1G 5) do 21000 do 1, 100 do 10 50 ban Wig 100 do de bao 36 1500) 86) 104 Hndson River RR. 5000 Penusylva ‘Ss 73M Erie RR. new, full 3000 do 530 7555 Long Island RR 100 IM fundable —bém do shs Del & Hud serip 145 do do North Am Trust 10 do do do 10s do 50 do Farmers’ Tr 130 do do, Wi) do do Harlem RR. do Ohio Life & Trust do 125 do Canton Co do 175do do no do mado do WS do Wdo do wd 0 do 200 do do Amos 40 do 150 do sl 1) do 200 do $6) 100 do 13 do } Wor RR 20) do 35 do N .
