Many, however, hac Ject confidence in the ability of the king ( surrounde.l the city was by large bodies of troops) to put down the insurrection, that they remained quietly at their hotels, and were unmolested, As the rebellion contiuuad, how- over, und the people apjeared to Le getting tho wscer- daney, a karge number of the foreign residents prepared to leave, when news was brought that the king had iven way, and that a new miuistry was bout to be % ymed All intention of departing was then givan up. ‘At thet timo, there was no suspicion, even among many of the Parisiaus themselves, who had acted with the ri volutionists, of the length to "whioh the matter was to! carried, and the writer, when she closed her letter, ap- peared confident that the concessions made would quict the city atonce. The proclamation of arepublic wus as startling tohalf the population of Paris, aa it was to the world at larga. ‘The republicans, fiading that matters were favorable, rallied to the ‘meeting of the Chambers on the 26th, ‘overawed the ceputies, who, trembling oud in imidated, were unable to ect with energy, aud upon the suddea termination of the sitting by tho act ot thy President, seized the opportunity, end elected a provisional govern- ment, composed wholly of the favorers of a repub- lic. It remains to be seen whether the great mass of the people of France will sustain this position ‘Tha proclamation of this new government has @ ro markabie resewbiaace, ia more respects than ono, to the dvouments of the revolutionary convention of 1790 ‘The following extract from the Paria correspondence of the London 7im-s, written previous to the outbreak, will give some idea of the sentiments which prevail ia France generally :— “Phe most respectable inhabitasils of Rouen, Amiens Argors and Caen, forwarded addresses to the opporition deputies, approving the attitude they ossumed, and their determination to attend the Reform Burquet. ‘As to us,’ eay the citizeneof Rouen, who,in the present circums ances, can only unite at a distance in your ge- nerous efforts, we wisb you, wt levst, to know that we are heartily with ou; thai, like you, we are determined to sacrifice everything to the cause of liberty, and to main- tuin,at all risks and periis, toe prisciples which find in you such such glorious defenders. ‘Rety on our dovot edness and co-cperation,’ observe the inhabitants of Amiens. ‘It is your right, aud it iefalso our duty,’ ray the people of Angers. ‘to claim, by ali leyal and constitu- tional means, the maintenance of a liberty yielded to us by a minisiry at sts lest gasp, ‘The charter of 1830 sball hereafter bea reality.’ ” Symeatuy witn Tut Frencu RevoLuriontsts. —The meeting held at the Cninese Museum, Philadelphia, on the evenirg of the 22d, is raid to have been most enthusiastic. ‘ths Pennsylvanian says, it was one of the most inspiring ever witnessed in Phila- delphia. The enthusiasm of the people was perteotly * overwhelming. Every allusion to France, to freedem, to the ae revolution in the land of Lafayette, to Ire- land, to Itely, avd to the oppressed millioas of Europe, now ‘gladdened by the rays of the rising sun of liberty, ‘was received with explosions of cheers. It wae a demou- stration worthy of the qity ia which our independence ‘was declared, and worthy of the cause cf that univerral demooracy which is destined to redeem the whole world from bondag: Attho Beesccrutio mass meeting held at Hartford, Con- necticut, on the 2ist inst., it was resolved, “That we 1e- joice to hear that after a loug and disastrous eclipse, the jorious sun of liberty has oxee more shone forth in ‘rance, never again, «8 we hope, to be permaneutly ob- roured ; we tender our warmest sympsthics to the gal- lant republicans of that noble uation, and trust they have seen tho last of kingly thrones; and that, profiting by the bitter experience of the past, they will never again tuffer themselves to be euslaved by tyranti Uuder the mask of freedom. ‘I'hat we hail t! of freedom in Italy and in other potic countries, the dawn of a new era of liberty upon eno world.” The Philadelphians are enraptured with Biscaccianti On the occasion of her benetit, on Tuesdey evening last, she was received with the wildest marks of enthusiastic approval, proclaiming her the favorite. Bonquets and “ bravos”’ were showered upon her in the utmost profu- sion, and, in rhort, ehe was perfectiy triumphant. Shameful Negligence. The cause of the accident to the Phyladslphia train of cars may be all correct, as stated in this moraing’s Jour. ral of Commerce; but | Lave heard another story from an ere: -witnes', in the company’s employ, which, it ithink makes them still mor diame. ‘They have made aruls—which fs not in the least observed that no one shall ride on the locomotive but the engi- d fireman. I'he bulls and bears in Wall street are waiting with the most intense anxiety furthér advices from Europe, and tho deily report of sales showsa very smull amount of busi- ness. This indicates an impression among holders that the next accounts will be more favorable than the last It would, however, be well to be prepared for the wortt The routherly ani south-sasterly winds which havo proveiled for several days past, have brought into port a fleet of veasels from all parts of the world. Within the past thres or four days, five vessels have arrived from China, with cargoes of teas and silks, valued at about one million of dollars; there are six more momentarily ex- pected, wit full and valuable cargoes, These shipshave beenhurried slong in consequence of the agitation of the taciff question, and the possibility of a duty being levied upontes. As that question is now put to rest, mothing is to be apprehended; and the additions to the stock of tea Lave been so great, that if they are forced upon the market, prices must give way very materially. Several European packets have arrived within the past few deys, with full cargoes. ‘This is calenlatod to ewell the {ports for this week, and increase the aggregate for ths month. There is, however, little probability of the imports forthe corresponding monthia 1947, being ex- ceeded this. The exports from this port this year, have boen com- paratively exceedingly limited.
