COMMERCIAL AFFAIRS. MONEY MARKS. Thursday, Feb. 246 P. M. The stock market opened heavy this morning, and closed heavier. The most sbsurd and ridiculous reports relative tothe Mexican treaty we @ circulated in the street, and had a depressing influence upon prices for nearly every stock in the list. Itwas actively report- ed by the bears that there was a condition attached to the treaty to the effect that the ‘erritory ceded to the United States by the Mexican government should be preserved free from slavery, or, ia other words, that a sort of Wilmot proviso was insisted on. There is not the slightest foundation for such a report, and it origi- nated io the minds of the bear speculators of Wall strert. It is almost too ridiculous to allude to. The stock market, however, isso sensitive that prices were generally affected. Louis, for the past year, compar- ed with that for the previous three, exhibits, both in the imports and exports, a very satisfactory inorease. The shipments of breadstuffs last year were perticularly large, and the imports from the interior, by the Mississippi, Missouri, and Illinois rivers, show with what rapidity the agricultural and mining resources aro becoming de- only agent in veloped.
