Puttapsiputa, Feb. 18, 1848. Death from Anger—Preparation for the Reception of Mr. Clay—Squabbles about a Newspaper, c., §e. Miss Brown, a young girl living in the upper part of the county, was found dead in her bed this morning, and is supposed to have died from the effects of anger, having had a bitter quarrel with her mother the previous evening. The whigs have made the necessary prepara- tions to receive Henry Clay, and do their cham- pion all honor during his visit to this city. It was expected that he would reach here on the 22d of February, but [ now understand that he will notipets here before the 24th. The Iden & McMakin case was again brought up to-day, in the e, “ae branch of the court of common pleas. he administrators have given notice te the receiver, that they will insist upon his receiving from the defendant the net sum of $30,000, clear of all expenses of sale, before he transfera to the purchaser the Satur- aay Courier establishment. The terms ot Mr. MeMakin’s bond was, that he should pay to the receiver any difference between the actual pro- ceeds of final sale, and the sum of $30,000, so that, in any emergency, that sum should be se- cured to the estate of the late firm. The notice referred to, states that the estate of the late Mr Holden was entitled to a large sum as its shareot the receipts of back subscriptions and the pro- fits ot the paper since the decease of the late part- ner, and therefore the whole $30,000 will be less than sufficient to pay all the claims of the estate. The cxse came before the Judges, this mormng, 1n two aspects. The counsel for the defendant applies to know whether, as $5000 of the pur- chase money for the Saturday Courier has al- wwadly been peu in, they shall pay in the balance of the whole amount of the purchase money, or only $2500, to make up the fait due to the es- tate of the deceased partner. The application ot the other side asks that the whole amount of the cond given by Mr. McMakin shall be paid into the hands of the receiver to meet the demands they have against th~ purchaser of the Courier The argument of the case is going on, but a de- cision will hardly be arrived at to-day.
