The President’s Message, 0 far as we are able to judge from the telegraphic synopsis, does not amount to much. The great fluctuations in all these departments, with- in the past twelve years, account for the great specula- tive movements within that period. The banks of Ohio are now in a medium position. Their specie and circu- lation do not compare more favorably than in times of the greatest expansion; but the issues are now upon & different and better basis than in former years, and are therefore more secure. Ten yearsago the loans and dis- counts of the Ohio banks were $7,729,724 larger than they now are, and within that ten years, the products of that State have increased four fold, the wealth of the State doubled, and the internal and external business of the State trebled. Notwithstanding this, there are fa- cilities enough to conduct business of every kind, and , of which $3,622,082 was on account of payment of prin- cipal and intereat of the public debt, including Treasury notes redeemed, and not funded; the expenditures, ex- clusive of payment of public debt, having been, $55,- 929,095 It is estimated that the expenditures for the year ending June 30, 1848, will amount to, if war with Mexico shall not be concluded, $58,615,666, including the, necessary payments on account of the principal and interest of the public debt, and the receipts for the same Period, to $42,886 545, of which $31,000,000 it is esti- mated will be derived from customs; $3,600,000 from the waile meal remained steaty at previous rai made ata slight decliue compared wit uned stead at yes! at about 22 cts, Price. of all kinds footed up 1200 this State. at $6 3734; very pure it also, some tter demand; small sales of etersburg was held which, with the balance in the Treasury on the lst of July last, make up the estimate, It is estimated that s loan of seventeen millions of dol- lare will be required within the next six months, or for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1848, if a duty is placed on tea and coffee, and the price of public lands gradu- ated; or a loan of $18,500,000, if neither of these things aredone. Should the war be continued until the 30th of June, 1849, a further Ioan of $20,500,000 will be requir- ed for the fisoal year ending that day, in case no duty is imposed on tea and coffee; no graduation of the public lands; and no military contributions levied in Mexico. This will make in the aggregate, from this to the 30th of June, 1849, & period of eighteen months, loans for $37,- 600,000. ~The amount of specie imported into the United States Meal ty at) 0 Ry 2500 ported at te 5 al Socin the slip, aud at Se delivered.
