Several of the fancies improved a fraction, while others closed at prices current on Saturday, Treasury Notes ad- vanced % per cent, Ohio 63 X, Sergio ba 1%, Reading Railroad %, Long Island 3s. Reading Bonds, Farmers’ Loan, Canton, Norwich, ee Harlem closed firm at Saturday's prices. Illinois Special fell off 1 per cent. The sales were not very large at the improve- mont, and the market closed with an upward tendency. The Bank .of Brunswick, at Augusta, Georgia, has declared a semi-snnual dividend of fcur per cent. The Mechanics’ Bank, Auguste, has declared a divi- dend of four per cent for the last six months. The comparative receipts and expenditures of the Stonington railroad company for the past three years, have been as annexed :— Sroninoton Rar.noap Company +845. \ 86 049 22 4,793 00 10,997 09 sea 32 M1932 at 76.626 44 37,404 40 12'456 73 126,087 57 15,844 64 the year ending Sept ist, 1847, ‘were equal to nearly seven per cent on the capital stock ofthecompany. A dividend of two anda half per cent was paid last July, and another of a similar amount will be paid on the Ist of November, out of the earnings of the year ending Sept. Ist, 1847, leaving @ balance of about ono and a half por cent on the capital stock, as @ surplus carried forward to another ‘year. . ‘The railroad from Providence to Worcester, which as yet isonly passable, with an engine to the town of Mill- ville, bas an excess of passengers and freight over the most sanguine expectations of the stockholders. The company are now receiving, from twenty miles already completed from Providence, about forty per cent on their capital stock. The road will be opened the entire dis- tance in about a week, The Stonington railroad will re- ceive « very great accession to its local and through busi- ness by tho opening of the Worcester ling; its freighting business will betparticulaly benefitted, as there are many large manufacturing towns between Providence and Worcester depending upon the New York market for the wale of their goods, which will find an outlet via the Stonington road. These towns have heretofore been de- pendent upon old fashioned modes of conveyance to market, and have, of course, labored under great disad- vantages compared with their neighbors, They now have facilities for getting to market equal to the most favored manufacturing town, and we have no doubt they willhave & corresponding influence upon their prosperi- ty. The completion of this road will open to this city sources of business which have heretofore been partially drained threugh other channels. ‘The receipts of the Norwich and Worcester railroad company for the month of September, 1946-47, were as follows : $190,015 99 9 80,311 98 aeral repairs. jerest on bonds, 36,128 40 8,27 + 08 111,779 4 86 928 5: _Nonwion AnD Wononen Rartnoan. 8:6. 7. The whole of the decline in the recvipts has been on the through travel, caused partisl- ly by the discontinuance of the Long Island day train between Boston aud New York. The expenses incurred in running that line have, of course, been also dis- continued, but they were by no means equal to the re- coipts from that source, The local business of the company shows a slight improvement. We haye some hopes that the opening of the Nashua and Worcester railroad, will | 4 | Recetpts from all sources, September, 1846, $45,044 55 * | hie exhibits an inerease of about enty per cent — the | Washington Branch, a semi-annual dividend of two and and ingenuousness ‘he has in | help the Norwich line, aio talk of wore ona freight from Nashua and that section, destined for New York, now has to go by the way of Boston. It is our impression that the Norwich and Worcester company will gain more by the opening of the Nashua road than | it will lose by the opening of the Worcester and Provi- | Vidence road. We, however, have our doubts about this road ever paying a very large dividend, and it will be many years before the stookholders will receivo even the smallest dividend. a ‘The receipts of the South Carolina railroad company for the month of September, 1346 and 1847, were as mnexed :— Sourn Canouiwa Rattroap. 1847, 67,248 85 Incroase in September, 1847,....... $9,204 30 The aggregate average increase in the income of rail- roads throughout the country this year, compared with | last, has been about twenty-five per cent. | ‘The Baltimore and Ohio Itailroad Company have de- clared an annual dividend of three per cent. On the « half per cent has been declared. It was anticipated by many stockholdors that the Baltimore and Ohio compa- | ny would declare @ larger dividend than usual, in copse- quence of the great increase in the receipts, but in that | they have been disappointed. The re-laying of s portion | of the track, aud the extension of the road beyond its Present western terminus, compel the company to con- fine its dividends to the previous rate, and apply its sur- plus to the improvement and completion of the road. Every dollar of the loan required tor the completion of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, has been obtained, the contracts have been signed and ratified, and the work of completion has been resumed. There is no confirmation of the reported death of any of the American generals. Letters reovived by com- mercial houses at Tampico from their correspondents in the city of Mexico, confirm entirely the Picayune's former reports of the battles of Mill del Rey, Chapuite. pec, and the heights, on the 8th and 18th, when Gen. Soott carried the place at the point of the beyonet. A circular from the Alcalde is published, dated at Guadaloupe, 14th of September, addressed to the com- mandants General of Departments.
