Indiana, on the 4th inst, has the following :—The alarm among our farmers, relative to the fly in their wheat increases. and appears to be better founded thau we had last week supposed. We pasced. on Wednesday through that beautiful tract of farming land, the Indian Reservation in Berrien county, Michigan, adjoining our county line, and to all our enquiries wo received the Fame auswer that the fly was indeed unusually prevalent One faraer, who has a handsome aud apparently thrifty firld of wheat, and who, up to @ week ago, confidently expreted to have 1000 bushels from it. found it on # close examination, ao full of the fly that he will not, ip all prodebility, dnd tt worth entting by harvest; at a sainple of what we were informed was their con- dition through the whole reservation. On the North side of Terrecoupee Prairle, in this county, a prairie which generally suffers but little from drought, cold, or fly, some of the finest fields of wheat are found to be in a similar situation. If this scourge of our farmers works the evil all suppore it will. conjoined with what we have already suffered by having part of the crops winter killed, northern Indiana and southern Michigan, with all their large expanse of tillable lands, will have duc small. if any. surplus next hervest. The cold and backward spring has also been very unfuvorable for corn, and much fear is felt relative to that crop also. HERALD COMMERCIAL CORRESFONDENCE. Havana, May 31, 1847.
