The Ist of Aprit—The Ship France—Holliday Street Theatre—The Markets, &c. The juveniles are up to their eyes in business this morning, making “April fools” of our good citizens. You cannot walk a square without an attempt being made on you, the boys claiming as large a “charter as the wind;” and it is considered here a breach of propriety to show anger in return for their familiarity. Even the sooty chimney | sweep will bellow after you that “you have torn | your trousers,” or ‘dropped your handkerchiel,” without fear of resentment. The ship France is still in the same perilous | condition on Swan Point. The steamer Patapsco | will take down to her this moming two powerful suction engines, with hands sufficient to man them, and 3! ip-carpenters to stop the leak if it can be found. The tide, however, rises and falls in her, so that there is but little hope of the suc- tions being able to clear her of water. The _ Holliday street theatre will be opened on next Thursday evening the 8th inst., with Mr. | Wheatly and his sister, Mrs. Mason, and Mar- shall’s excellent company, lee from Richmond, under the direction of ake. Attera few nights the ‘ Viennoise children” will commence their engagement, and the anxiety here to see them js so great that a premium will freely be given for seats. The usual commonplao> attempts were made this morning to fool the public, but very few suc- ces:ful. Some were green enough to walk down to the wharf \o view the carcass of a whale, said to have been caught in the bay by Capt Ketch- em, of the schooner Phantom, but the story was so extremely fishy that most persons saw through the trick. A number of young fellows, while on a lark last evening, entered a military rendezvous, and car- rying off (he guns and music, went a recruiting through the streets, were made to feel rather fool- ish this morning, when they appeared before the mayor, having be-n arrested in the act. The were each held to $500 bail, and bis honor, in a dition, gave them » severe reprimand. The orig Adele, Capt. bari, Heth is now taking on board the cargo of the bark John Welsh, dis- masted in the bay a few days since, to proceed to Ireland with it. This was the first shipment o| our Irish relief committee Our military companies are mustering at their several armories, in order to participate in the last sad rites to the remains of the late Lieut. Blake, | of this city. "The body is to be deposited, tempo- rarily, in Ronaldson’s Cemetery, but will subse- quently be removed to Laurel Hill, where his father has purchased a lot for the purpose. | Alderman John Hoffner, of Moyamensing, long | the poliee magistrate of that district, died this morning, alter a long and severe illnes: ae Liverroot—*bip Yurk [Mimadd bars de E Clark & jarritie=l ck Haut & ¢ T Met ture—l es Grant fe Bar- tou=2 Wiley & Putaxm—3 Burkley, Grshsm & co—2J vior- coins +e C B Conrnt, Ellis & eomacks tesluck & LA &P Fo restk colo ea Lb ta ate bury jr & co—15 es Savus, Faller & co—15 cks2 bis 133 er 80 der—34 8 2 bl+ Koiss, Bros & co—41 cs Bea's, Bu cont RS & ‘» Buuer- D Hadden & np & co- fe & e. wentoumL MR rig yr —s3 RS mm & 1 pawith, Torey & com17 K C Blackbaru—12 cs [sa Ye L Pract =13 pkus Clirk & MeCornin—1 bl 1 cs 6 cks | uskt Hun —2 cs Morrison & Aliev—1221 bars 460 bdls is phrey & trie T hhd PPnteiyoue—T2 cra? cus JW dare T 1, Mead & co—15 ca Stone, Swan & co— ‘Sturg K Sh iw—10 60 5 bs noberts & Freemea cs Davidson & Kele—2 cs 1 bl Woorhuil & Mint m2 M Wilson & ¢; ae ey Keo ds tk H Fri ‘rco—5 do | 3 cks hardware 8 D Wilmot=5 cx 1 ck Corming, | & ew, 2 at Bradley & co—2 cha lcs N B Mille ry & Walsh & Maliory—16 certs 4 hhds Levi Thoma—8 ‘Tuomas Cook—1 Herts & Sous—1 Cooley, K & Hili—1 L Harris & co—i J-mes Owen—t T Low Harnden & co—5 Hall, Brothers & co—4 F Marray- 8 bi Livingstea AT Wells-58 cs 33 b Ne lor if co—i2 erat hall suum vite WC ade T W Lewis voek.
