A bill was reported for the consideration of the Senate to increase the powers of the boards of Supervisors. The bill for the relief of Ireland was taken up on its final passage, and the vote stood 17 to 5. Mr. Lesren, President pro tem, decided the bill was lost, for the want of a two-thirds vote, Mr: Srexcem made an appeal in favor of the bill, but the appeal was laid on the table, The Committee of the Whole took up the bill moving ppropriations for the canal debt, und for the mainte: nance ofthe canals for the years 1847 and 1849, Mr. Densiston explained the (provisions of the bill’ stating that it was mere appropriation bill, and did not alter any existing law, and the necessity for its passage ‘was now pressing. A long debate ensued on the. xpenses of the canal su- perintendence, but no question was taken on the bill. The Senate then went into executive sea: ion, A message was received from the Governor, nominet- ing John Bradley, {of Brownsville, as Surrogate of Jef” ferson county, in place of Mr. Woodwell, deceased, which was referred to the Senators of the 5th district. Mr. Spencer read a report in own behalf, in sup" Port of the Governor and Senate, to fll the vacancy. Mr. Hanp stated that the majerity of the Judiciary Com- mittee would report in a few days. Adjourned. Assembly. Atsany, Feb. 23, 1847. The Senate amendments to the bill in relation to writs of eertiorari in certain cases (the Freeman case bill) were concurred in. The orders of business were laid on the table, and the Judicial Districts bill taken up, when a lengthy debate ensued. The question was taken on recommitting the bill to the select committee, to report substantially that after the first special olection in May, the judiciary of ficers shali be elected at genoral elections. The motion prevailed—ayes 44, nays 35.
