Thisis rather tough; but merely in keeping with the character of Ampudia. More anon THE DOCTOR. Barrimons, Oct. 28, 1846 Murder Trial—The Bank Defalcation—Theatricals. The offence given isa statement made | 2gsyouB 100, 60, and 26 bbls, were.soli from railroad | in a recent letter that the proclamation of the new She- riff would be void of effect in Moyamensing, because the police officers despised the author, in consequence of | their variance in politics. The truth of this remark is becoming more apparent every day, for the document in question is openly treated with derision by the officers, and the tegp, “my bailiwick,” so often repeated in it, become a catch-word, and has only to be mentioned to | rajse alaugh among them. This is occasioned partly by the fact that the Sheriff has aimed his proclamation solely against Moyamensing and tho gang of “ Killers,” when other clans of rowdies exist in Southwark and the upper districts, against whom he might with equal propriety, | have launched the thunders of his first official dictum. The allusion previously made to the proclamation, was | intended more asa regret than otherwise, that his on- deavor to put down this notorious gang should be so re- | ceived. | The train from imore last evening was thrown off | the track near C consequence of running over three cows. A cursory glance at the political history of this State | for twe yeors past, and particularly at the position of | Silas Wright during that period, will sustain the general | conviction that the course of this gentleman, in case of his re-election, in regard to many prominent measures of policy will be very essentially modified. Conciliation and an unreserved communion between the wings of the | party is projected, and when it is seen how often the supremacy of the democratic principles has been hazard- od, and how eminent the danger of defeat is now, it ia confidently believed that a rule of conduct will be ob served under his administration, for the future, which will effectually defeat any attempts at the disorganiza- tion of the party.
