For bread and other necessaries, they resort to pillaging the surrounding farmers, or like bandits, robbing every vehicle that travels along the roads leading to and from the city. One day last week, & baker's wagon was stopped by them on Broad street, anda portion of its contents carried off despite the opposition of the driver, and @ mineral water wa- on, passing slong some time afterwards met the same fate, and the driver was beaten because he endeavored to preserva the property of his employer, They carried off as many bottles as they could niently carry. ‘The Moyamensing folic, though they are all aware of the hiding places of the “ killers,” and know who were, the most active in the recent riot, are laugh- at the futile efforts of the officers of the crimi- nal court to arregt the offenders, and will do nothing to sid them in accomplishing tho object aimed at. After tue hue and ery for their arrest has subsided, they will bably return to their haunts in purlieus ot Bed! Wt street, and repeat their outrage: pola law and order. Perhaps they will be bold enough to do this to-morrow evening, as some time since one of their number de- clared it was the intention of the gang to repeat the | same entertainment every Sunday evening, until it was too cold for out-door amusements. A melancholy accident happened this patton at Bris tol. One of the forward deck passengers from your city, @ young man about 21, was standing on the platform of a baggage car, looking’ back at the passenger cars which had been detached, and, as usual, were going another track to enter the depot, when he wai caught between the edge of ily ‘aud the brick pillar of the | ere | market house, and My crushed. Fires end Incendiarism. About 10 o’clock this morning, a fire was discovered | in the extensive lumber yard of John Rice, in the North- ern Liberties, bounded by Sixth, Brown, Marshall and Coates streets, which, for a considerable time, seemed to defy the efforts of the firemen to extinguish it, and threatened to involve the whole square in a wide spread desolation. The fire, evidently orginating in design, | ‘commenced in a range of sheds extending the length of | the yard on Marshall street ; the: were soon destroyed, and the dwellings on the opposite side of Marshall street | were much scorched, and, but for the firemen, must have been entirely destroyed. The fire gradually ex- tended to the piles of lumber with which the yard was crowded, and the conflogration was at its height, when word was brought that a second fire was raging at ‘Twelfth and Poplar Lane, aud a portion of the firemen ry aired to suppress that, in which they soon succeeded. frame carpenter shop and \d joining frame dwelling ain destroyed at this place. There can be no doubt thet this was a second act of incendiarism. The autho _ rities, in order to respite their firemen, who were by this time nearly exhausted, sent to the Mayor of the city for the assistance of the firemen of the Middle District. ‘The State House bell was sounded, and a fresh supply of men and engines and hose apparatus were in motion for the scene of conflagration. With the assistance thus | obtained, the fire was suppressed about 2 o'clock. The loss cannot be less than from fifteen to twen'y thousand dollars. ‘The man crushed at Bristol, yesterday, was still alive last evening, and was somewhat better, but still his re- covery is deemed impossible.
