The Germantown, though the last to be launched, it is contidemiy ant cipated by com pe- tent judyes, will not be thé least in public estima- tion when her capabilities for sailing are fully tested. In point ofmodel and finish of workiman- ship she caunot well be excelled by any of her class in the navy. She isa first class sloop-of war, of 980 tons burthen, custom-house measure- has onedeck, witha single row of ports, and her armament consists of eighteen 82 pound- ers, medium s} and four eight-ainch Paixhan guns.
