The news from Mexico to-day, which reached this city by way of Baltimore, that the Mexican forces are concentratiog upon the Texas frontier in great numbers, with a view to an invasion of that State, confirms my statement to you about three weeks ago, that deapatches had arrived here, on the date of my letter, trom our army of obgervation at Corpus Christi: and that the Secretary of War and General Scott, were in close consultation up to @ late hour of the same day, preparing orders for the | troops there. The fact was as | have stated it; and, moreover, the messenger who brought these despatches, was sent off early the next morning with orders from the Secretary of War, fora change of position higher up the country. It mustbe now evident to the meanest capacity, that the British government is moving pari passu with that of Mexico, in her hostile demonstrations towards us; and, that while she presses her arro- gant pretensions to a portion of our territory upon | us, she is encouraging the Mexican nation to move | upon our fnoouresine ioe the purpose of frightening us into compliance with her demands.
