Last night Templeton, the vocalist, gave a fare- well entertainment in the Music-hall, previous to his departure for America; and we have never seen a more crowded or more brilliant assem- blage in the Hall on any similar occasion. The entertainment consisted of a choice selection from Mr. ‘Templeton’s various performances, and included his two favorite scenas of “I love her,” and “All is lost now.” The whole of the pieces were ceived with most enthusiastic applause; but still “Old Towler” and ‘Salty in our ‘Alley” seemed the favorites, and with the “Jolly Beggar,” as well as one or two others, were warmly encored. The vo- calist was sorely tasked on the occasion—but he was in excellent voice, and ready for every call. Previous to giving his concluding song—** The Bay of Biscay”’—Mr. Templeton said, that he had on previous occasions endeavored to express his feel- ings of gratitude to his patrons in words, but on this occasion he would try to do so in song, though it was far from expressing the sense which he felt of the favorable reception and encouragement he had received from his countrymen—or the regret he felt at parting. He begged now, for a time, to bid them all sincerely and. respectfully farewell. This was followed up by his singing a song marked MS. in his programme, and entitled “ Farewell to the land of bright hearts and bright eyes,” which was re received with ce applause. At the close of the entertainment, Mr. Blewitt sung his favorite comic song, “ Heigh ho! ohdear! oh dear!” which, as usual, called forth much laughter and applause, amidst which the veteran pianist made his bow and retired.—Caledonian Mercury, June 26—[(We un- derstand that Mr. Templeton will give a farewell entertainment in Liverpool, on the eve of his ap- proaching departure for America. ] Ameng the numerous candidates for vocal fame this season, we take credit to ourselves for pointin; out to public admiration a gentleman fresh arrived from Italy, whom we have heard at several con- certs.
