Well, the battle is over; the smoke is about clearing away, and we can now begin to see the positions gained or lost by the respective belligerents. We find tae natives in possession of Southwark by about 900 mojority, of North Mulberry and Locust wards in the city; of fourth ward, Mayomensing, and of two wards in Spring Garden Inall other places, except one or two trifling rural dis- tricts, they have been routed—horse, foot, and dragoons. The democrats hold the highly populous district of the Northern Liberties, by an overwhelming vote, carrying six wards out of seven—the seventh being carried by the whigs; also, the township of Mayomensing, two thirds of the city, and the two most important wards of Spring Garden, besides a majority of the rural districts. The whigs hold full possession of twelve, thirteen wards of the city, besides electing here ‘and there, where they were wise enough to sup to their ticket and not amalgamate with the natives, a portion of their minor candidate: clearly ascertained that the natives compose sbout one- fifth of our veting population ; and yet some of their pa- pers pretend to claim a victory. e acted on all importations since that date.
