Oa Monday, March 17th, Jenxstian Gavanty, aged 24 ‘The receipts of cotton this season, have been about six- ty thousand bales more than last. The receipts of tobacco are alao much larger. There appears to have been a very large falling cff in all kinds of provisions, such as beef, rk, bacon, potatoes and lard, while there has been an crass tate receipts of flour, butter and cheese. ‘The aggregate decrease in the leading items is much greater than the increase of the balance, but the falling off can hardly be accounted for. The crops throughout the wei last year were very large, but it seems they are ke; back, the producers not feeling disposed to submit to the reduced prices, preferring tokeep their surplus for an advance, or to consume it upon their own premises. The people of the south and west are at present very mnch restricted in their resources. They have involved them: selvesin debt, and the low peice. of produce prevents them from extricating themselves with the present crop. ‘The merchants throughout the south and west, depend en- tirely upon the Ecoeens from the crops from year te year years, The friends of his uncle are respectfully invited to at- tend his funeral, this afternoon, at four o'clock, from his late residence 495 Pearl atreet. it On the 6th instent, in Lambertsville, New Jersey, Ma- jor Levi Stour, at an advanced ege. The payments of the mer- chants of Michigan will not average five per cent on the amount falling dae. ‘This partial suspension does not arise so much from the amount of the indebtedness, as from the inability of the consumers indebted to pay oven & pottion of the sum indeb‘ed, in coasequence of the low price of their productions, and the absence of a de- mand for the large surplus. It does not appear at Cr bable that this decreas in prices can be arrested.
