ns more, which is of greater profit Stitutions than the whole circulation in this State. Many eastern banks often loan money to houses in this city upon cendition that they will keep it out of the bank for a certain time. by distributing the circulation as much as possible, whereas the circulation of our city and State banks re turns {rem day to day in large amounts. The circula. tion of our State money would be more ext:nded, if the edémption at different points was at par. This plan would besefit the country banks more it would. those loceted in the city, and do more to- wards driving out of the State the issues of foreign banks, than a dozen jaws similar to those now in our statute books. Eastern Jersey and New York State money are now on a par,the discount on one being the same as on the other, and they both ebtain about the same cireulation, there being no choice in the reception. So long asthis 1s the case, so long will the laws be transgressed, and circu lotion of foreign bills continue. Destroy this equality by advancing the value of our own issues throughout the State, and the difference will soon drive out all others but those legally entitled to the benefits and advantages of our own trede and commerce. PuttaDE.ruta, Oct. 28, 1844. The democrats have made considerable political capital out of an intercepted letter, written by Wm. B. Reed, Esq , enclosing an order for $100, to be applied in canvassing, and conveying voters to the poll in Lehigh county. The letter hasbeen printed to German and in Evglish, in the shape of a hand- bill, and circulated by thousands throughout the interior of the State. The whigs treated the matter lightly at first, but finding that it made 4 deeper impression on the minds of the people than they anticipated, they have called an in- dignation meeting teers dh to express their opin- ton on the subject. democrats assert that it will increase their vote twenty-five per cent. throughout the State. The letter came out through amisdirection. It was addressed toa Mr. Selpidge, Prothonotary, Allentown, Lehigh county.
