The Marine Bank of Baltimore has declared a semi- annual dividend of three per cent. ‘The exports from the port of New York for September, will compare very favorably with previous months this year, and the aggregate exports up to Oct. lst this year, will compare very favorably with the exports upto the In many of the leading staples, the exportjis larger}in 1944 so far than in1843; for instance such articles as beef, corn, cotton, flour, lard, lumber, wheat, naval stores, pork, &c.,have been shipped more exten sively this year than last. The increase in value is no, #0 great as the increase in quantity; prices have in many instances found a more reduced level, and the producers of our principal staples have not realized s> fair a remu- neration for their produce as in previous years, We have not the presumption to attribute this state of things te any particular policy of the government, but must at- tribute it principally to the increased supply; to the sur- plus over and above the demand for consumption; andto the ubsence of all speculative demand for either domestic ‘The movements of the crops now coming forward are likely to end in the same result. The supply of cotton, tobacco, wheat, wool, &c., will without doubt, greatly exceed the demand, and prices must become still further reduced. There is no remedy for thia state of things, but to restrict productions, and that ix out of the question. Producers in this country areincreasing with greater rapidity then the consumers, ‘and so Jong as that continues, so long will prices of agri cultural products command but very reduced prices. The foreign demand for our breadstuffs has nearly reached its maximum, end the attention of the people of this country must be turned to other employments besides agriculture. Our extent of soil dissipates all dangers If acrop is destroyed in one section, it is good in another; we have, therefore, a plenty insured in the most unfortunate season.
