There are very few bills in the market from other sections of the country. The usual supply from Canada is cut off. The importations in Montreal and Quibec direct, have been very large this season, and the demand for bills in those cities has not only used up their usual supply, but the additional quantity thrown on the market, by means of the Canada loan, recently nego- ciated in London, has been eagerly taken. During the past week several remittances have been made from this market in cotton, parties making payments abroad pre- ferring that method, rather than submit to the heavy ruling rate for bills. Cotton bills from the South are still looked upon with suspicion. Sterling bills at the South are very high. In New Orleans the ruling rates were 8} a9 percent. In Mobile 8 per cent was the lowest point. There is every prospect that exchange will soon reach specie shipping rates, The leading bili drawers ask 9} per cent premium, nett, to-day, and 94 is the current rate for good second rate paper. The high premiums given for the Receiver General's Exchequer in Canada precludes its tranemmsion to this market for sale, and stock opera, tora themselves now abandon the hope of keeping specie back much longer. In August, or September it must go forward freely. We anuex 9 very valuable table, showing the compara: tive value of ou: importations from each country for three years and nine months of the fourth, 1843:— Imponts into THE Unitep States, From Each Fernion MM ictwd for several years with diseases in my bones, ac- pmpanied with severe and racking peins, also with very ulcerations, I have tried several of the most urgeons, with wo beneficiat result. | almost des. “1 of being cured, until I called on Dr. Heme, 20 na at., who in the course of four weeks so far cured # that | was enabled to walk with almost as much ease ever I did im my life My daily improvement from the ime | commence: ewe ir, Heine’s medicine was appa: nt to ull—the ulcerations have entirely disappeared, id I now enjoy my original health and strength WILLIAM KENEDY. The decline has been very great in our imports from Great Britain, and the decline has been in cetton and woollen manufactures, The imports from Great Bri- tain for the nine months ending June 30th, 1643, was eight millions less than last year, and \wenty millions lews than those for the year previous, 1841. The importation of silks in 1842 were valued at $9,448,373, while those for 1843 were only valued at $3,041,886. This accounts forthe limited imports from France in 1643, as our importations of that article heretofore have been quite an item in making up the total from that country.— The importations of merchandize trom Great Britain have actually diminished a much larger per cent than appears visible in the above table. The imports {rom Great Bri- tain, according to the above table, for the nine months ending June 30, 1843, were valued at $26,313 499—of this amount $14,304,952 were specie, leaving only $12,008,547 worth of merchandize, imported from Great Britain in nine months. Of the $7,639,096 imported from France in the same time, $2,598,870 were specie, leaving only $6,060, 816 as the value of merchandize imported. Our for- eign trade withother countries shows nearly the same re- sult Our imports from Mexico, however, have increased, being almost the only instance of an improvement. The benefits derived frem our foreign trade last year were. first, the supply of precious metals threwn into the country, and the bajance still remained to our credit; second, its limited extent and the absence of large supplies, over. stoccing the market, and apec ulation. The demund was very regular and very regularly supplied; prices were very uniform throughout the season, and every de partment was in u very healthy condition. — Our wants were satisfied, and that was all. So long as we adhered to this policy, the country would gradually grow rich, and we should, in a very short time, become the creditors ofthe world. The movements made so far this year, are of a different complexion. and will lead to different results. Our position will be chang- ed from creditor to debtor, and instead of receiving specie in payment for our exports, we must suffer a drain to pay for our imports. be VELPEAU'S SPECIFIC PILLS FOR THE CURE of Gionorrhasa, (leet, and all mosupurnlent discharger fron: the urethra. ‘These pills, prepared by the New York College of Medicine and Pharmucy, established ior the wappression of quackery, may be relied on as the most spe nd effectual remedy for the above complaints. bey uve gnaranteed to cure recent cases in from three {> fivedays, xed porseas n greater power over obstinate dischatves dost chronic givet, than any other preparauer at jest tnown, removing the disease withoat confine ent fom business, ae the breath or disagreemng wity the stomach. ‘Price $1 pet box. Sea Flower, from Oporto, June 12, arrwed.avPhis ** delphia yesterday, we have reeeived the “fdilowing letter :— + mn sl Patapsirura, July, 144. Me Bennertr— Deak Sin—The Sea Flower “hus experienced very light weather, with one oF two excrptions— one of which, Juve 23d, in a gale trom 8 W, off the Western I-lands, carried away the fore-yard, fi hed it with the booms, which prevented carrying steering sails aflerwards; was eight days in the Gulf Stream, and had ten daye calm during the passage. On the night of the 25th of June, I'-ter Collins attempted to raise a revolt, retused dary and threatened my life, for which | have brought him home 4s a@ prisener, in irons. At the Italian Opera the company were perform- ing, forthe first time im Oporto, Donizeui’s opera ot Adelia, in which Miss Albertina, a young English prima donna, lately come out, gave muc! satisfaction. A new Italian company on a large scale was shortly expected trom Lisbon, arrange- ments having been made to perform a series of fa- Vorite operas, to approach #8 near as possible the style and splendor of San Carlos in the Capital. At the time of leaving Oporto there wasa great excitement existing among the fashionables at the upperend ot the city, at the escape of a nun from the convent at Nella Nora, and conjectured elope- ment with a young Englishman. The miseing young lady belonged to one of the first families in Oporto, who were doubly incensed at tne fair dam- sel for choosing a heretic lover for the companion ot her flight Commerce generally at Oporto was im a very de- pressed state, and very little doing either in the im- port or export trade. American produce is dull of sale, and rosin so ow that several hundred barrels of American, lately imported, were abandoned to the customs for duties. While coming up the river yesterday was board- ed by the Cutter lio took Peter Collins, the moti- nous man, out of the Sea Flower. Yours truly, Joun U. Norxs.
