President of the n , with much courtesy and politeness by his colleague Gov. Bagby. f, ‘THE TARIFF. Gov, Baasy proceeded to make his speech upon the tariff on motion of Mr. Evans. , Tnstead of undertaking to report this speech— made entirely for home consumption—! shall, after it is finished endekvor togive you the substance of it condensed. a Further Particulars of the Riot. {From the Phila, Gazette of yesterday page’ J Hay Past One o’crocn—Mors or THe. Riots. — Our paging 1s just retarned from the ground, and brings the following report. Every thing continued quiet front 12 last night to 7 this moraing. At about that time groups began to assemble as yesterday, but under higher excitement At Second andFrank- linthe American flag was raised, and with it the placard which was paraded through the streets yes- terday, At this peunds the volunteers of the Ist Brigade were relieyed by some of those of the 2d. Self organized bodies now tormed, and a search for men and arms was made through the houses in the square bounded by Master, Cadwalader and Jefferson streets, and the Germantown road. The mulitary did not interfere as perfect order was pre- served. | Several stands of arms, as rifles, muskets, shot | guns and pistols, were found concealed, chiefly in the out-houses, in a pig stye, &c. They were al- most all loaded. The inhabitants had dispersed.— Atabout 8o’clock a gun was fired in Jetlerson street, which for a moment created great exci ment, but it was at once discovered to be an_acci- dent. About 9 o’clock a large quantity of gold, about $700 dollars, was discovere: in the embers of the fire in one of the houses burned yesterday,— Some 100 dollars of it were carried off by boys, but a guard was immdiately set over it by the volun- teers, and the residue discovered and returned to the owner, an old Irish woman named. At 10 o’clock some companies of the third Brigade also appeared. ‘They took possession of the ground. ‘As they appeared, an Irishman was discovered in | the act of loading a musket, having just loaded one. He was immediately seized and carried to Alder- man Boileau’s, and from thence to Mayor Cannon’s. On the way down, and with great difficulty, his life wassaved. Arrived at that officer’s, he was obli- ged to place him at once in a cell in his office to | save his life. The excitement was increased at the office by the fact that Young, one of the men shot esterday, and who is not expected to live, v lying in the adjoining house—his sister, a beautiful irl, was on the steps of the house, in an almost | rantic state, and the sympathies of the crowd were | raised to an almost uncontrollable pitch. Last night, in a straggling melee, an Irishman named Rice was shot in a street called Philip street. | The men Rice, an Irishman, a weaver, who was shot yesterday, it is now asserted was shot down in the act of firing. He is represented as having been one of the leaders. An_ Irishman, at the corner of Jefferson street and Germantown road, during the hottest of the fight, was engaged in firing down Jefferson street into Cadwalader street, among the Natives, killing and wounding two or three. The edge ot the house, behind the corner of which he would dodge, was literally shot away by bullets fired at him. He was at last shot through the back of the head by a boy, who came through Jefferson street from the West. t At 11 o'clock the crowd was entering the houses in Germantown road, searching them, ead from them arms and ammunition. They conducted themselves, though under great excitement, with much forbearance, destroying no property, and whenever they entered a grocery store to carry | out the powder, placing a guard to protect the rest of the property. The honses in the immediate scene of action, and within a square or two, are all deserted, and the Irish have almost entirely disap- peared. Some tew men are seen carrying off their furniture in ears. At 12 0’clock a fire broke out, but as our repor- ter left at that time, he is unable to afford any par. ticulars of it. At that time, one of the yolunteer: belonging to the Monroe Guards, was fired upon and carried off the ground mortaily wounded. Va- rious rumors are afloat as to_the assemblage of a large force of Irish from Manayunk and other points, in the Second street woods, and above Rich- mond on the Delaware. Vertous other rumors are afloat, which we forbear to mention. Qg- We learn from passengers who arrived from Philadelphia last night, that the riots continued without abatement yesterday afternoon, notwith- standing that all the military were out. More blood had been shed—and more houses burned, among which was a Catholic Church. Sales of Stocks at Philadelphia.
