Domestic News. {xeenious Bank Ronsery.—The theme of con- versation in State street—and, indeed, all over the ne AL says the Boston Transcript of Tues- day been the very bank rob- bery which eee to light” this morning, the ticulars of which are eee in the Mail, trom whi it appears that on Tuesday, the 15th inst.. hast wee ages, of $17,000 each, in ‘bills on the Millbury were sent to that bank by the Suffolk Bank = this city, and charged to their secount of d Oa Monday, a large quaauty of the lowe bills came tothe Suflulk Bank, soas toexceed the de- posiie of the former in the latter; and the Millbury Bank was accordingly notified to redeem the ba- lance. The direevors of the latter, deeming it im- possible that any great quantity of their circulation could come into the market, did not take imme- diate measures for such a contingency. But as the bills did continue to flow into the mar- ket more rapidly than was thought consonant with the safety of the bank, the Suffolk refused longer to redeem them, and notice was accordingly given to that effect in the papers of this morning. lay afternoon an express was sent up to Millbury in order to ascertain the cause of the bank being dishonored. The cashier said it was impos- sible that the bills coals have ft into the market to the extent named; and the movement was to examine the two $17,000 packages, which still lay untouched in the vauli of One of these packages contained what it purported to contain, namely, $17,000 in gvod bills; but from the other, the whole $17,000 bad been ingeniously extracted, and brown paper, with the ends nicely cut off, substituted in place of the money! The Bank is perfectly safe, and the bills will all be redeemed. Tue Srrike amonc THE Weavers.—At a meet- ing of the Weavers of Moyamensing at Moyamen- sing Hall, on Monday afternoon, resolutions were passed asking no advance of wages but a continu- ance of former prices. $131 was received from the weavers of the Northern Liberties to assist them in the stand out. A large number of the weavers pa- raded the streets yesterday, bearing flags, and ac- companied by a band of music.—Philad. Gazette. Homicipe.—In Philadelphia, on Monday, a man named John Witherstine, while engaged in * sky- larking”’ with another person named acces Wide- nor, received a blow which rendered him insensi- ble, and from the effect of which he died in the course of the day. Widenor, who immediately gave himself up oO ‘the Police, was a young man of od character and peaceable disposition. Wither- stine was intemperate and in bad health. A Srrance Cask —The minister who married his daughter-in-law at Stonington, Ct., does not have a very comfortable honeymoon—he is serena- ded with tin pans, conch shells, &c. almost every night. He married, some ten years since, a widow lady, a Mrs. Douglass, of Newark, N. J., with two children, a son and a daughter, the daughter being at the time of her mother’s marriage about 12 years of age. About 18 months since, Mrs. Anderson died, aud the daughter took charge of the house- hold'affairs of her father-in-law. The elder, after being absent a few months, recently returned with a wife, who was no other than the identical daugh- ter in- g Ney to whom he pretended he had been mar- ried since October last. A deputation of eitizens wanted upon him to know who married him, and to remonstrate against the impropriety of a minister marrying his own daughter-in-law. He could not tell who married him, and had no certificate to pro- duce.—Boston Post. Devicate Rerry.—Ata ball given by the city of Paris to Napoleon, was Madam Cordon. The Cor- sican, in general, was not very fond of people who had become rich by any means but his own favor. He had never seen Madame Cordon, whose name even he had never known before, but he had been told that her husband was possessed of great wealth. Ue walked towards her with a peevish sort of air, Hes said toherabruptly, ‘Are you Madame Cor- 7” She made a profound conrteny to the ques- tion, Bonaparte continued his discourse. “Are you very rich?” “Yes, sire,” she replied, “I have ten children” Napoleon, struck with the delicate ferce of this reply, wa'ked quickly away.
