After Meise! on the com pletion of the road, the rent is to reach the sum named in. the lease (by nearly equal gradation) in 1849. The cost of completing this road to Grees port is estima. ted by the engineer, J.J. Shipman, Esq. at $360,000, which is about $12 per share, and would make the amount paid in $40.25. The road now, it appears, with out beginning orend, more than pays its expenses,and if pushed through 80 a8 to form the proposed connection with the Norwich and Worcester, and Stonington roads, by which the ‘pas sage to Beston can be made in ten hours, its revenue will undoubtedly increase so as to make it a very profitable road. We recently published a circular which the assignees ofthe New York and Erie Railroad Comj,any have issued te ite creditors, in which they say, ‘“anless the terms therein proposed are accepted, they shall, proceed to clos, their trust by selling the road for the ben.efit of the credi, tors,” subject to the lien of the Btate for three millions of dollars. ‘There existed already sufficient indigniitien on the part of those interested, without the aid of this “circular” from the men who have brought the read into its present degraded position. After waiting nearly one and a half years without an effort to rave the propert}’ from ruin and delapidation—keeping its creditors in susp ense—destroy- ing\the hopes of the stockholders and the community— appropriating the earnings of the eastern division of the road, amounting to more than $175,000, to pay their own salaries, agents, stipendiary presses, political intrigues, and distributing to the creditors the large sum of $3000! they issue a circular informing the public that their en- tire future efforts depend upon the settlement of their debts due by the Company.
