Fact and Fancy. ‘Tue Comer.—We flad the following article in the Boston Courier -— The elements of the Comet yon, are roughly computed, and will need fature correc- tion. They agree very closely with Mr. Clarke’s noon- day ebservation of February 28th, and were computed from Mr. Bond’s observations of March 11th, 18th, 24th ani 26th, More correct calculations, in which all his rvations will be theroughly discussed, will in due be presented te tbe American Academy. witade of the ascending Node..,.... . .348 deg. 33m. Cambridge, Mass , March 31, 1843. Later rrom St, Domineo.—There has been an arrival at Norfolk from noe Hayti. Apprehension was entertained that the Insurgents would attac! the city, and extensive preparations were making to repel the invaders. Two regiments in that place were summoned to the assistance of President Bo- yer, and on their way were met by the insurgents and cut up by them. Fro Mexico. —By the U. S. schooner Dolphins from Vera Cruz, bound for Pensacola, which touch" ed at the Balize on Tuesday, we have received re~ gular files of Vera Cruz papers to late in February: The Dolphin stopped off Tampico, and we learn from a passenger in her, that a paper of that place which was brought on beard, contained an account of the reeapture of 111 of the Mier prisoners who a escaped from the guard and were making for Texas. The papers contain official accounts of the siege of Campeachy. In one of his proclamations, Gen. Barragan announced to the army that Gen. Santa Anna weuld soon appear and head the troops in person ; but-his exeellency seems to have chang- ed his determination, for at the last dates he was about leaving his farm, for the capital, to be present on the occasion of the adoption of the new constitu- ion. It appears that Capt. Charleywood has lett the Mexican service, and that he sailed from Vera Cruz in the Medway in the latter part of January: Cay Martin commands the Guadaloupe, and Capt. Palo- mo the Montezuma. The official letters trom the Mexican commander near Campeachy, speak in a confisent tone of the immediate success of the en- terprise—and the Vera Cruz papers record the fre- quent departure of reinforcements to the besiegers, which they believe render the fall of Campeach’ seat certain.—New Orleans Bulletin, March ’ orbit, which 1 bere send BENJ. PEIRCE. Revigiovs Revivat in Burrato.— We have given from time to time brief notices of the extensive re- vivals which have for some time past been in nro | gress indifferent parts of the country. We have | now to notice the results produced in our own city. Protracted religious meetings were commenced in the early part of the winter in the Rev. Mr. Angier’s (Presbyterian) church, and Rev. P. Woodworth’s (Methodist Episcopal) church, which have now closed. In the former there have been one hun- dred conversions, and in the latter one hundred and seventy. Inthe Rev. Mr. Hopkins’ (First Presby- terian) church, a series of meetings commenced about two months since, and are still continued. There have been in this church nearly one hundred conversions, and large numbers are seriously awakened, among whom are some of our most pro- minent citizens. In the Rev. Levi Tucker's (Wash- ington street Baptist) church, there has been during a month pasta very interesting season, conversions having taken place, and quite a large number are still anxiously inquiring after the truth. In Dr. Lord’s church, though there has been no special effort, a revival of religious feeling has extensively prevailed, ard large numbers have been added du- ring the past winter. Thirty, we understand, were admitted to membership at the last communion season Fresuets.—A letter from Reading under date of the 26th, says:—‘‘ The recent rain caused a tre- mendous freshet in the Schuylkill, but the damage to the canals, railroads, manufactories, &c, has been trifling. Fortunately the rain was succeeded by cold freezing weather, or the destruction of pro- perty would have been extensive. ‘There is a great deal of snow still on the mountains, and another freshet will accompany the next warm rain that ensues. This may be safely calculated upon.” Wyanvorte Lanps.—The lands lately ceded to the United States at Upper Sandusky, are attached tothe Consolidated Land Office, which is to be re- moved from Lima, and established at Upper San- dusky, where a town is to be be laid out by the Government. The land will be offered at $2 50 per acre, and if not sold may be entered at that rice. The improved lands are not to be sold at ess than the real value in the estimation of the su- periniendents of the sale —Cleveland Herald. Snocktne Waste or Timr.—The Virginia Legis- lature adjourned last Tuesday, having set 114 days, and passed 170 laws. Decision on THE Bankaurt Law.—We have seen the deeision of the Supreme Court, adjudging that the bankrupt law of 1841 made no provision to bring auy case arising under itinto the Supreme Court.— Washington Globe. AprointMENT BY THE ParsipeNt.—Chas. Murray, Purser in the United States Navy, vic Thomas Gadsden, resigned. Procress of MormonisM.—The steamer Goddess of Licerto passed np the river yesterday with about 500 Mormons on board, bound tor Nauvoo.
