Vartety. "Latest rrom Texas,—The New York arrived at New Orleans on the 26th ult. from Galveston. We have received dates to the 24th ult. The only news trom the army which the papers contain is the ac- vary of Colonel Fisher's surrender, whieh Captain Auld handed oa board the New York in the Gulf on her outward passace. The Texian Congress ad- journed oa Men the 16th. A bill had been passed , g for the frontier detence. It is the general yression that Texas will probably be invaded in the spring, and a writer says they are preparing to hold a “mass meeting” on the occasion. The total amount. of re- venue trom customs for the three quarters ending ‘Oct. 31, was $102,068, expense ef collection $15,131. Every indication, says the Civilian, favors the idea that the amount for the coming year will be iations promise to be even ted to be collected under the tariff alone, there will be a surplus to the amount of the direct taxes, end there seems to be a fair prospect that the country will be in # situation to begin to its old debts, and thus re-establish the standing tor integrity, which, by prodigality and want of management, rather than a disposition to disregard its obligations, it was forced to impair by a tailureto meet the demands of its creditors. The French emigrants lately arrived at Galveston, on ther way to the County of Bexar, brought o jarge number of choice grape cuttings. ‘here is litue doubt that ‘Texas will eventually be a delicious wine country—particularly in its western regions. Nearly all descriptions of grape may be found there in a wild state, and we have there seen many acres of land ina body entirely covered with low creeping, and lofty climbing vines. Court Martiau.—-The deliberations of this body have been closed, and the Judge Advocate has leit for Washington with the decision ft the Court, It is generally believed to be favorable to Lieutenant Taneill.— Phil.
