Quarterly fournal of Medicine and Surge for January, furnishes the tollowing statistics : er 4 Boston, the whole number of deaths for thirty years, from 1811 to 1840, inclu- sive, was 88,616—by consumption, 6,243. Tn New Yor daring the same time, there were 152,485 deaths, of which 27.496 were of consumption. In Philadelphia, 113,596—by consumption, 16,221. Av erage number of deaths by consumption in Boston, 1 to 6,185; in New York, 1 to 5,547; in Philadelphia, 1 to 7,003—the difference being in favor of Philadel phia. Danive Roppery.—The Amesbury, Mass., Trans cript says, that Mr. Rigeley, recently of Lowell, anon ed two men, strangers to him, to carry him from Newburyport to Haverhill. On arriving at the hotel, che called for some wine, and offered in payment a silver dollar, which the bar-keeper re- fused to take, supposing it to be spurious. One of the men then thrust his hand into Mr. R.’spocke., saying, ‘Come, old man, you've got plenty more money,” and robbed him of his pocket book con- taining sixty-three dollars. They then went out under the pretence of going to ae silversmith’s to ascertain whaler the disputed dollar was genuine, jumped into the sleigh and made off Desrruction or THE Town Recorps or Norway. —The following is a letter contained in the Port land Advertiser, dated Norway, Oxford Co. They are in almost the same words— his Excel- jency has passed a good night, and seems on the whole in an improved state of health.” In Banxerurcy.—Judge Daniell, of the United States Circuit Court for the Eastern District of Vir- ginia, has decided that making anassignment by a debtor, in which some creditors are preferred, the assignment covering all the debtor’s property, is an act of bankruptcy within the meaning of the law, on which creditors may petition forthe ‘appointment of an assignee, &c. Acep Persons.—The united ages of twenty five persons who died at Newport, R Ri. during the past vear, amountto 2,041 years. ‘Five’ were between 90 and 100 years; nine between 80 and 90; and eleven between 70 and 80. This includes one-tourth of the deaths in the place during the year. The re- turns of the previous year were of a similar charac- ter.
