(G- CAN THE HUMAN HAIR BE RESTORED !— There has been so much deception practised on the pub- lic, that that good natured animal—the public—will not believe even when the truth is offered. Now look at this i scientific body of nger. “We have minutely examined and tested Jones’ Oil of Coral Circassia, and find that it consists of compounds de- ciledly favorable for nou: softening, cal growth, curing dandruff, and giving a dark appearance to the hair, being the qualities most recommended by Mr. Jones, which this Society find perfectly true, and in vir- tue thereof award Mr, Jones the above testimonial.” (Signed) J. 8. BAKER, F. R.S., Portman street, Portman square, London. But we invite all tocall at the office and see that it is as he represents :— This certifies that Ihave been cured of a violent in- flammatory rhematigm in my shoulders by the use of one bottle of Dr. Henry’s sheumatic ry after I had tried all the usual remedies without avail. ‘The pain was 0 te. “vere that I almost continually walked the floor and coul’ scarcely sleep an hour in the twenty-four. In. this state one bottle has perfectly cured me, and I have felt nothing of it since. MARIA GRIGGS, 96 Avenue D. New York, July 1, 1842. M. ‘The feeling in the stock market in regard tothe sound stocks is better. The operations, however, are exceed- ingly limited, and very little disposition exists to invest, except in New York State, or Corporation, Kentucky, and Ohio. Bank stocks are much out of favor. Sales at the Board to-day exhibited a fall in Harlem of }; Ilinois }; Indiana }; Farmers’ Loan improved }. The Corporation Stock 7 per cent 10 and 15 years of this city, is decidedly the favorite investment at this mo ment, the State being somewhat neglected, owing to the impression gaining ground that the southern tier of coun- ties will go for the whigs conditionally that the Erie rail- road should be finished during their reign. If such should bethe case, we shail have 4 40 million debt. The Corpo- ration has isaued all that will be required to complete the great Croton Water Works. Money is quite easy, and the prospect for a sound and healthy state of things for the future never more encour- aging. ‘The packet for Liverpool, via Boston, leaves to-morrow, She will be the first for six years that can earry the un doubted indication that the commercial affairs of these United States, after a continued downward tendency in everything, have not only reached bottom, but have el ready taken an important stride towards improvemeni. We do not now refer in any degree to the present price or values of stocks or other descriptions of paper credits, but we refer to that general returning health ofcommerce growing out of the superabundance of our produce, an. the low prices at which we can supply the world. Inthe spring of 1833, the Banks of New York assumed a which they have since maintained, and the effect of which has been to force all sections of the country down to the specie standard. This process has been assisted by the Prolific yield ofthe crops, which have come forward in the settlement of claims due to New York; at the same time the purchases of goods have been small, The result that allthe world is, and has been, indebted to New York, until the specie in the vaults of the banks of this city, is now computed at $7,000,000 or $1,500,000 in excess of that of any former period. Notwithstanding this large sum on hand, a large quantity is on its way from Europe here, a natural result of the low state of exchanges, which are as follows:— Rares or Forerax Brus iw New Yor. il. June 15 July ist July. aondon, | Sia The 6 8 Oh, France, 5 37% a— 537%ah 00 5 oT a5 38 5 4DMa bat mate: 9814 a 39) B 8M Ba 3 “Bihan G jain bury S ae in 2 3 Mia AS, Sremen, TMA © ga 15, Tae 738 At these low ratesthe operations are to @ very fair ox tent, mostly for the purpose of speculation in remitting home specie. The Bank of Commerce, for instance, has purchased upwards of $1,000,000, which will yield a fair interest for the employment of its funds, taking inio con sideration the customary premium of i} por cent. oa gold in Paris. In these bills the transactions were mostly at the above rates. The market closed, however, at $5 40. Sterling bills will yield a better per centage in realising specie, and fair sums are taken for that purpose. Thi manner of employing the funds of the Banks is perfectly legitimate, more especially at this moment, when the de- mand for banking facilities is so small. The large amoun of specie mentioned aboveqas on hand,is an indication of th« large proportions of capital lying idle for want of employ ment. We may further state that the offerings at the Mer chants’ Bank to-day, one of the soundest and most popula institutions in the country, with a capital of $1,490,000, were scarcely $30,000. So far to attest the strength of the institutions here, although it speaks little for the profits of the Banks. ‘The large accumulation of specie here at the head oj the commercial movement of the country, is beginning to overflow and to produce its natural and legitimate re- sults of renovating the whole trade of the country. New Orleaus is the next point of importance, and there a specie basis has been at last reached, All the vast products of the West are now valued there in a specie currency.— ‘The prices of all commodities are valued in hard dollars, necessarily a demand for specie there has sprung up, and the exports from this city to that point are now large and regular, with every prospect of reaching $2,000,000 or more before it ischecked. This isdrawn from the banks for a real equivalent, and is exchanged for produce there at such low prices as will command the markets of the world, thus increasing the supply of foreign bills, and course the influx of specie from abroad to supply in tus city the drafts of specie made for the purchase of pro- duce in the interior s is the operation by which the country is becoming supplied with a specie basis. The only check tothe movement would be a scarcity of pro- duce, by which prices would be raised too high to admit ofexport. Fortunately, however, such an event is be- yond the range of probability for this year at least. A sa- gacious and intelligent friend, who has made atour of ob- servation throughout the West, states that the abundance of the produce is unparalleled. At Wheeling, Flour it is calculated, will sell at $2 50 per bbl. At Cincinnati con- tracts for Wheat, almost to any extent, can be made at 45 cents per bushel—at which rate Flour in New Orleans will pay ot $8. The great wheat growing counties «' New York are overflowing, and the most intelligeni mil- lers look upon $4 50 a $5as the highest range for Flour in New York for the coming year. Other provisions will bear a similar proportion. The following is a table of the leading articles of domestic export for a series of years, from official sources, with an estimate from the best data of the exports for 1843. In this operation, however, the insolvent banks and de- preciated paper secucities, have ueither part nor lot. They must necessarily perish.
