Incase the decision of the Supreme Court is re versed, which is not very likely, however, the Boar: of Aldermea will then stand eight Whig to eighi Democratic, and one vacancy in the sixth ward the Board of Assistants, nine Democratic to seven Whig, and a vacancy also ia the Sixth. All the ep pointments by the Whig meimbers in joint ballo: will be void, as well as all other business transacted by them. Meantime every thing is in the wind. Tue Greatesr Buessixe.—Colonel Webb of the regular armay says that the “United States Bank, in- dividually and collectively, was the greatest blessing ever bestowed upon a people.” Ever bestowed upon an editor and stock-jobbers, he should have said. &G@ Gentlemen—My wife bes been for the last two or ey ears troubledwith asevere eae a Song soca with great prin and bleeding st the langs; the cough [as been so severe at times that during the paroxisms ot coughing the blood would fly from her mouth and nostrils atthe same time. This would commence in the ‘all and last through the winter. Nothing that had been ried would relieve her until warm weather appeared, at vhich time she appeared to revive alittle. Nothing how- -ver, that had been tried would afford her permanent re jet until she made use of Pease’s Horehound Candy, and he results were such as to leave a happy impression upon ver mind of its efficacy and virtues. It has been used with great success the last nine years, and will, by its ewn intrinsic virtues establish an undying reputation for the speedy relief and cure of this lingering disease. For coughs and colds no one baseless assumption superiority, should be requisite in proouring the management of other people’s property. One of the greatest delusions that has overtaken the people of this country of late years, has been that the suc- cessful operation of banks promotes the application of capital to the development of the resources of the country. The creation of banks, and the increase of their capitals, is thought to promotecredit. On the contrary, it destroys credit. ‘The proper use of capital is, for those who possess to loan to those who are in want of it, to put labor in ation, thereby to increase the capital; and after reim= ig the lender with a fair vent, to leave a surplus for the operator. Capital or wealth can be increased or pro- duced only by actual labor. Wealth must be drawn from the ocean, raised from the earth, hewn out of the forest, lugout of the mines, or by some other process of actual industry, All these are works of time, and the capital which is employed in them must continue invested for a long period, at least for one year. When, by along period of successful industry, a man has accumulated such a por- tion of capital will allow him to cease from labor, he then seeks to invest that capital in a manner that will yield him an income sufficient for his support. Where there are no banks, he casts about him fora customer, and trusts Wellington Chadwick, June 30 20| Quebees gcc. 3 june 20 Wo shall esteem at a favos, if cantains of vessels arriving here, will give to Commodore W.
