[Correspondence of the Herald.1 Uriea, April 12, 1842. A Mysterious Marriage—A Ball—The Beauties Present. Dear Six :— The peaceable fathers and mothers of the Utica Female Moral Refurm Society have been thrown into terrible commotion lately, by the marriage of one of its members ina rather underhanded way. It seems the parents of a boy were opposed, from Piincipie, to his marrying the lady of his affee~ tions from the fact that she numbered some six or eight summers more than the boy. She however was six or eight years older in cuteness than the old coons; and, succeeding in one effort, she con- cluded to make a bold stroke and seeure the more diffident and smaller half to herself, and the meaas made use of effected the purpose. The “ modus opperandi” was in this wise :— About six weeks since they secured the valuable terviecs of a demi-somebody :o be in propria per- sona ata certain toy-shop, then and there to per~ form the hely service without cider, cake, or any other moral reform drinks, in such a manner as to defy the efforts of the old ones to bresk them asunder. Lhe somebody did his part of the duty, and left the newly married happy pair todo theire; they both take the popular shower quite content- edly, and hi ‘ole them that they were enjoying the bliss of matrimeny five weeks before any of the wise ones were notified of these im- portant circumstances. Old Neptune with his tri- dent, or Jupiter with his lightning, never eut such an unnatural figure a: aid the old respectable daddy when the news was told him. This should teach the old ones to keep their boys at home, and see them in bed before eight o'clock every evening. The parties are both of good familic#, and like many who have once ‘ edand paid 30 cents on the dollar, are well to do in the world; all, too, are members of the church So says the vorld. We had a pretty ‘‘»ffair” at the Mechani Hall the other evening, and at the request «f ene of the beautics, | send you a short acoount of the proceedings.
