It is faid the Spanith Admiral reported, there were more Naval Stores then in the Havannah than would compleatly rigg all the Men of War in the Harbour.----- It is faid one of the Men of War had § Milion of Dollars on Board, and that 8 Million Sterling in Specie had been al- ready counted, that Lord Albemarle had declared that the Treafure taken at the Hayanah fhould be equally divided among the Land and Sea Forces, and that the Share of the two principal Officers woiild amountto £. 12,000 per Annum. The Capitulation included all that Pare of the Ifland which was under the Jurif- diétion of the Governor of the Havannah, but the Particulars are not yet known by the Pablick. Our whole Lofs was as follows, 400 Kkilled, 600 wounded, 200 of which fince dead. 700 dead of Sicknefs. The Spirit and Ardour of our Seamen during the Siege was of the utmoft Confe- quence.----T'he Service of all our Men was extremely fevere,but there was an abfolute Neceflity for it, or the Defign could not have fucceeded.---- The Arrival of the Reinforcements from New York was cri- tical.----It is faid the Number of our Men fit for Duty wasbut little more than 3e00, but the Spaniards were in a much worfe Condition, it is faid thev had 6000 fick. T'he Seafon of this Year, by the Report of the Spaniards, has been more- favourable for fuch a Defign as ours than ever they have known.----The Country appears to be exceeding fertile and well cultivated, adorn’d with fine Buildings and Villages ; one avery large and rich one, within 3 Miles of the Havannah, in which was a fine Church and @ Monaftry, had been abandon’d by the Inhabitants before the taking the Havannah, with all the rich Shops of Goods, and Furniture, which was intirely pillaged by our Soldiers. Lord Albemarle, it is faid is to fail for England in O¢tober. Capt. Campbell -late of the Sterling- Cafile, of 64 Guns, who failed coming to the Attack, when he was ordered, it is faid is broke. and fent to England. Extrat of a Letter from on board one of the Tranfports of the fecond Divifion, which failed from New-York for the Havannah. «July 21 1762, Latitude 22. 34. 4 o’Clock in the Afternoon, fell in with a French Fleet confifting of two Ships of the Line, 2 Irigates, 1 Polacre and j5 other Ships. We faw them take 7 Sail of, our Tranfports,and if there had been half an Hour more of Day Light we fhould have fhared the fame Fate ; but the Night faved us. We put about and ftood off from them for about 2 Hours, and then alter’d our Courfe again. Inthe Morning we found ourfelves clear of them, and we fiw them fio more: . Thefime Morhing faw two fail which came np with us not- withftanding our Endedavours to avoid them._ They proved to be a Privateer be- longing 'to New-London, and her. Letters from Martinico fay, that the Grena- ~ des, which. furpendered with Martinico, is a very fine ifland, ard bas great plenty of every thing. Ihat the French bad taken great pains te forsify the hills, wbich were ftrong by mature, as they commanded both the town and fort 5 had they taken the [ame pains to defend them, the conqueft of that ifland would have been barder than that of Martinice, for it may be defended by swo thoufand men againft fixteen thoufand. To form fimeidea of the difficulty of getting to thefe works, the chief engineer told fome of our officers, that to-get up one of the guns, a 24 pounder, with. its carriage, was a rask for 3000 negroes for a whole day. : : According to Letters from Georgia, dated the 23d Inft. the Spani/b Deferters lately ar- rived there were confined, and no more bad come in fincethe 6 mentioned in ourlaft.
