And, " On Sunday arrived & detschment of the Royal Train - of Artillery from Canada, by the way of Crown Point, Albany, &c, We hear his ‘Excellency General AMHERST is expected in & few Days from Albany. The Halifax packst boat lies ready to fail from hence at an hour’s warning, We hesr from Albany, that three Negroes are in Guoal there, for being concerned ( with ten others, who aré not yet tsken ) in ferting fire to the town of Sche- ne€tady ; Another negro there has lately murder’d his miftrefs, but is not yet taken N E WL @ N D O-N, Aug 14 Lt Friday was found lying in a difolate Bog mea- dow, in the North Parifh of this town, the dead body ot's perfon aimoft confumed ; upon inquifition made, the jurors gave in their verdict, that it was the body of one Dorothy Good, s tranfiet vagrant perfon, who had wandered into that difolate place, and there perifhed. After their judgment was taken, as decent a burial was given her as the circumftances would admit. H A LI F A X, Augufté. We hear that his Majefty’s Ships, Devonfhire, Dublin, &c. are getting ready to fail for the Weft Indies: Monday laft arrived here his Majefty’s Ship Grey- hound, from a Cruizs, and brought 1n a Prize, fheis a Schooner bound from Monto Chrifto for New York. Extralt of a Letter from a Gentleman on bsard bis Ma Jefy’s Ship Repulfe, to a Gentleman in this Town,dated in the Weft Indies Fuly 3d, 1761, “¢ ¥ Can with Pleafure inform you of our Succefs, we had a very tedious Paflage to the Weft Indies and we were fcperated from the Fleet in & Gale of Wind, however, in our way we took a French Pri- vateer, and carried her into Gusdsloupe, asalfo & Snow lowded with Rum, &c. and 1 large Ship belonging to Naples as they fay, laden with Rum, Sagar, Coffee, &c. . they both came out of Martinico, the Ship we have carried to Antigua, &c.” B O 8§ T O N,Auguft 24. A Brig with a Fiddle Head, 14 Guns and two Sloops in Company of 1o Guns each: A Sloop of 14 Guns, yellow Bottom, a gilt.Sun on her Stern, commanded by a Louifbonrg Captain, who was in Nantatket the beginning of the War, his * Name is Semina. A Sloop of twelve Guns, one Side Lamblack and Tallow, the other fide white Lead and Tallow 3 looks like a Northern Sloop, and fails faft. A Schooner of 1z Guns, formerly a Marblehead Fifherman, one Side of her upper Works black, and the other yellow and white Streaks ; 2 Seahorfe on her Haile Holes, and looks very much like a Fifherman on the printed Side. : A Tuefday laft his Majefty’s Ship Chefterfield, which is to convay the Maft Ships for England, arrived at Nan- tfket from Calco Bay, - ; " Friday laft the Province Ship King George, Captain Hallowell, returned from a Cruize. Drought the Water failed in the Well, snd he was digging it deeper, was oppofed by & Rock, and in order to foften which he made a fmall Fire in the Morning, and about 12 0’Clock the Fire being gone out, he went down into the Well, to fee whatOperation the o Fire had dpon the Rock. being got to the Bottom he faid e fmelt no Smoke, but his Eyes feemed to fmart, and immzdiately he aflayed to come up, having afcended 7 or 8 Feet, he fell feemed like one ftunn’d ; where- upon & young Man went down to his Affiftance, and immediately took him in his Arms, in order to biing him up, and he feem'd to {woon away, and fell with him-; whereopon another young Man went to their Relief, who fuffered the like Fate. "Now, their being three Men in the Well, and the Neighbourhood being slarmed, the Queftion was who would rifque his Life to aflilt his Neighbour? A Negro Man foon confented, and a Rope being made faft to him, he went down and made it faft to the two young Men who were imme- ‘diately drawn up, the Negro then failed himl(elf, and wasdrswn up. A young Lad inftantly went down, and madefaft the Rope to Walker, who was drawn up ‘ without any Symptoms of Life, except s Galp for Breath. Boththe young Men were alive, tho’ much diforder’d in their Lungs, and there was a general Stagnation of the Blaod in the capillary Biood Veflels, and a Subfultus Tendinum. Ugon fome Queltions that srole what Thould be the Resfon of this deadly Quulity in the Well, and feveral Experiments being try’d, it was found four Days after the above Date, it would ex'inguith the Blaze of a Candle when let down two Fathom from the Top of the Well ; thata Chicken, a Cat, and other Animals, like one ftunn’d, would fall down, and lofe all Motion, excepta faint Beating of theHeart and Arteries, which, if the Animals were left longer, would ceafe too. When the Arimals were teken out, sfter lying two or three Minutes, their Limbs would be ftiffened, and great Subfultus Tendinum, and once in a While, 8 Gralp for Breath ; but if thrown immediately into cold water, they would prefently revive. N. B. One ot the aforementioned young Men is fince blind, end his Life is much defpair’d of. It is hoped the Curisus will give the Publick their ‘Opinion relative to the Nature of this Vapour. &5 May it not be fuppes’d, the Vapour that arofe from the Well at Taunton, by which the Gentleman loff bis Life, might be occafion’d by Matter contain'd in fome Cavern or Jubterranecus Vault under the Well of & Copper like Na- ture, or fome other mare poifonius Quality 5 from whence futh Steams or Stemch might arife, fuffcient to make the Air unfit for Refpiration, and [o flop tbe Breath : or by the vicious Particles entering ints the Blood, contaminate or fpoil the fame, in an intire Charge of the natural globulaus Fsrms or Figures thereof, fo as to render them Sull-of Points or Angles, occafioning a [udden Mortification and Dzath ?
