Finglafs failed from Spithesd the 14th of March, in Company with Capt. Oucbterlony for this Port, Capt: Hooper for Bofton, with feveral others for Virginis and Carolins, under Convoy of the Succefs of 20 Gans, Capt. Hamilton, bound for South Carolina. He parted from Capt. Ouchterlony about 5 Weeks ago sll well on board. Capt. Finglafs fays, that the Day before he fail'd from Spithead, the Admirals Hawke and Hardy arrived there from Quiberon Bay, and bro’t in feveral Prizes, fome of them Privateer Ships, feveral Lug-fail Cruizers, and a Sloop from Martineco ; that the Channel was very well cleared of French Privateers, Numbers of them having been taken by our Frigates ; that the Fleet was fill at Spithead and the T'roops in their Quarters in different Parts of England. By the fouthern Papers we have very long Accounts of the March of the Army under Prince Ferdinand, the Particulars of which we are obliged to defer this Week: However we have extraGted the moft material of them, which are as follows, viz —That on the 13th of February, Lieut. General Breidenback tack Pofieflion of a Magazine of 40,000 Rations at Rolenhall, and ad- vanced towards Marpurg. The attempt he made up- on that town did not fucceed, the encmy being upon their guard: < He himfelf was killed in the attack ; and the lofs of that excellent general i3 much lamented. Generald’Okeim has been sppointed to that command. —That the fame morning fome bombs having been thrown into the town of Fritzlar, Col. de Farbonne of- fered to capitulate if the moft honourable terms were allowed him. Anf{wer was returned him, That fuch fhould be granted him, in confideration of his brave de- fence, upon condition however, that the garrijon fhould not ferve during the prefent campaign ; end that the battalions of Waldeck and Wildengen fhould be in- cluded in the capitulation. The commandant having vefufed to {ubfcribe to that condition, a brifk cannonade was begun again, and continued’ for half an’hour, sfter which the terms were accepted, excepting thole con- cerning the garrilons of Waldeck and Wildungen which were no longer infited on, upon his declaring, that the troops in thofe places were not under his command ; he marched out ot the town in the evening, with hiscorps, confifting of feven picquets drawn from the Irifh bat- talions, and 966 men of the royal grenadiers, ‘befides 105 wounded or fick, agreesble to the capitulation. My Lord Granby fent word the next day to the com- mandant of the caftle of Gudenfberg, ‘that he was rea- dy to grant the fame conditions to him, as M. de Nar- bonne had obtained, with which propofsl the comman- dant very readily accepted, as provifions, and ~ particu- larly water, beganto fail.—That advices were received dated the 15ch at UnRrut, (between Mulbaulen snd Eyfeneck) that General Sporcken; in conjunétion with the Prufiians; had ~attacked the Saxons in thofe parts, and that, befides cutting ' great numbers of ‘them to picces, he had taken five Saxon battalions prifoners of war.—That great part of the magaziae which - was at Hirfchfeld, when 15 French battalions abandoned it, was faved, which conflifted of 80,000 facks of meal, 50,600 {acks of oats, and a million rations of hay.— That M. dc Sporcken computes the enemy’s lofs'on the 15th, at 5000 men, at'the fame time that his own fcarcely ‘exceceds 1000, Licut. General ‘Flodenberg was wounded and taken prifoner.—And that the Pruf- fisnstook 3 battalions.and 7 pieces of cannon ; and M. de Sporken’s ' troops took 2 battalions and 6 pieces of cannon.
