Thomas Johnfon, Commander, {ailed from Newecsitle the 26th of Juae, for New-York ; onthe goth was taken by the Rowmaine Privateer, of Dunkirk, of zo Guns, and 150 Men, after an‘Engagemenc of one Hour and a Quarter and was carried into Bergen the 5th of July s where the French Captain, Matthew Damond, fold the faid Ship Benjamin and her Cargo to a Merchant in Bergen, who “fold the faid Ship and Cargo again, to Capt. Johnfon. On the 18.h of July, he fail’d from Bergen, and on the 7th Inft. arrived at New-York. Lt Saturday in the Afternoon inavery heavy Storm of Wind and Ruin, Capt. Davis in a Sloop bound in here from Black Point, laden with Lumber, was forc’d on Shore at Deer-Ifland : the Men’s Lives all fav’d, but the Veflel it’s faid will be loft. Capt. Lord in a Sloop bound to this Place from St. Martin’s, was taken on the 27th, of Auguft laft, about 60 Leagues Eaft of Bermudas, by a French Privateer Schooner, Mon(; Nicholas Commander, and having ranfomed his Veflel got into Marths’s Vineyard, from whence he came by Land lat Wednelday Morniag. s faid this Privateer had tzken 6 or 7 Veflels before near Virginia, and was bound off. The Surrender of Montreal was on the fame Day of the Month, which General Johnfon with the Pro- vincials, defeated the French Army under General Diefkau, when that General was taken Prifoner. The fum raifed in the Colony of Virginia, for the Sufferers in the late great Fire in this Town, swounts to Jfix Hundred and feventeen Pounds ten Shillings and nine Pence, inclufive of what has been already pub/i/lv’d. We have Advice, that Capt. Fleet in the Brig Duke, bound from-herce to Jamaica, was taken the 18th of June on his Paflage thither, by two French Men of War from Martinico bound to Breft, and after taking the People on board one of their Ships, immediately burnt his Veflel. Three Days after they took Capt. Movalt in a.Ship from_Philadelphia for Jamaics, who rsnfomed his Veflel, and proceeded cn his Voyage, alter taking two of Capt. Flee(’s Hands on board, who are arrived in faid Vellel at Jamaica, from whom we have the above Intelligence. Friday Evening laft Capt. Gay arrived here in 14 Days from Quebec, by whom we learn, That the Gar- rifon were in good Health, and fupply’d with Plenty of Provifions, when he failed. From Albany we learn, That after the City of Montreal had furrender’d, upwards of 300 Ladies of Diftin&ion, implor’d the Protection of General Am- herft, who was pleas’d to order proper Careto be taken of them,and gave them all their Jewels,Rings,&c. Tueflday Evening arrived here Capt. Bourn, in but 17 Days from Qucbec, and Yeflerday Capt. Small in 18 Days from thence. Capt. Bourn fpoke with Capt. Tinkham in 2 Ship bound up to Quebec, 8 Days ago, who had been from London 6 Weeks ; Nothing but WAR was talked of here. VW HEREAS there are {fundry Proprietors in the Townthip of BOW in faid Province, who have not drawn their Hundred Acre Lots ; -and by Reafon of the Badnefs of fome of the Land laid outinto Hundred Acre Lots, and other Im- pediments,-fonre of ‘[aid Lots have been ordered not tobe drawn; by Reafon whereof there is.a Neceflity of more_Lots to be laid out, that every Proprictor may have an equal Draught. And as it may be proper that fomething further may ‘be done in Regard to fetding fome of the Lines of faid BOW, it is therefore requefted by a Number of faid Proprietors, that-a Meeting may be called, :&c.
